Religion is pure bullshit.
Damn, I heard someone say: "If religion is bullshit then why do people still believe in it these days?"
Lol, that was so dump :)
It's obvious (to me) that, religion (christanity how do u say that in english :P) was invented by some for that time smart guy. Who told everyone about his believes, to make money and start building a church. Well then, religion goes from generation to generation, and children believe what theír parents tell them to believe, so it goes from generation to generation. To the day we are now. Fortunatly alot people got smart and said: SCREW U RELIGION.
I hope this made any sense. :)
The best thing we got from religion is war.
*lol* *whimper* war sucks. *intentional understatement* - what if I suggested that a die-hard Christian could come up to you and say "religion as it stands kills, and most of contemporary christian politics has very little, if nothing to do with Christ."? some do that.

While you leave churches and separate yourself from the cluttered masses of religious people, you form your own organizations and cluttered masses. Granted, Atheists tend to have a bit more education under their belts, but they tend to be just as arrogant in attacking religion as religion is about defending it.
I am far from religion, but I rarely call myself an Atheist. I take my opinion of that word from a book, which basically said that if I was to tell you I did not believe in a Pink Unicorn, would you make up a name to group me? No. You would think I was normal, because I didn't believe in a Pink Unicorn. No name would be needed to classify me, not "Un-Believer in Unicorns" or any nonsense, I would simply be a person.
And so I rarely take kindly to being called an Atheist, because I feel that it only creates another group that excludes, divides, and attacks the motivation of man. I have found hostile atheists and Christians.
I am far from a believer. I have spent hours talking with people, I don't like to spit on peoples' beliefs no matter what spaghetti monster they believe in, I try to at least show them my opinion, understand theirs, and when it boils down to "I believe it because I have faith, you have no faith and will burn in Hell" I pack up my bags and move on.
So, to this club, I pose the question: "How do you feel about the word Atheist?"
The most intelligent post i've seen in at least 3 months. Bravo tiger, bravo. The reason why,as you said earlier, religion "starts" wars is cuz of intolerance. by making a athiest "army" you are being a huge hypocrite, as your are being intolerant of those who sometimes are intolerant.

That's the thing with people, if someone present the idea that their beliefs might be incorrect. This is what makes most people arrogant, but i blame that on the people themselves, not the religion. If their religion tells them to be intolerant towards other beliefs, i'd say it's up to the indivdual to decide whether or not this can be applied in todays society.
I must admit that the only reason really that i consider myself an atheist is that it's (almost) the opposite of a religion. But i do know what i believe in, and whether or not that applies with atheism or not, i don't really care.
My thought exactly. You can believe in a similar ideology, but you don't have to join a particular group for that matter. Just as you can believe in God without actually being a christian.
And so I rarely take kindly to being called an Atheist, because I feel that it only creates another group that excludes, divides, and attacks the motivation of man. I have found hostile atheists and Christians.
Of course, that's the human nature. I'm sure there's hostile people with the same beliefs as you do, and that's an error of mankind. Personally i'd wish that all of these "factions" would just disperse. I do believe that it would prevent a lot more conflicts in the world if we all just believed in ourselves, and working towards a common goal (i.e. exploring and maybe colonise universe or something).
I guess it's very frustrating for them when a person like you and me fail to see the things that appear to be so natural and right to them.
So, to this club, I pose the question: "How do you feel about the word Atheist?"
I don't see it as something negative. If a person calls me an atheist i wouldn't care much. What does it have to do with anything, really? Would i be lesser of a man if i don't believe in a higher power? I certainly am not a greater individual beacuse of it, but it's not a handicap, either.

I think you ought to raed what the topic starter, Earfetish said in the first post. "Army" is just there for alliteration since it's starts with the same letter as Atheism :)

Ranting back on them won't change their opinion or beliefs. The best and most pleasurable way to piss a religious nut of is not to get mad. Just speak as logically as you can, with a calm voice, and they'll be going through the roof in no time ;)
and the conservative party (or republicans for u americans) are too biased for christianity. there are other beleifes out there and christianity is the most intolerant of all. lol :)I don't think it's the religion itself that's making people intolerant, it's just the people who fails at thinking for themselves. A lot of christians do, luckily, and wont opress or prejudice other peoples beliefs. Then there's the people who fully abide to the words of the bible (a.k.a. bible thumper) who doesn't think further than "if God says so, then it must be true and rightful. And i won't go to hell."
tl dr?
this could probably get me flamed but I'm in a mood to play "angel's advocate" if you will, and defend the perspective opposite the thread topic just a little bit, mind you, without any stunning logical exposition, just simple ideas:
have you ever met a christian who believes in every word of their Bible, doesn't go through the roof when you level-headedly disagree, and believes they themselves would sooner go to hell for responding inconsiderately to the person who does not believe basically that God is the "Creator", Jesus is the "Savior" and the "Holy Spirit" is essentially like a "superego (Freud ref.) conscience"? - I just ask because I have met some, but they're usually too timid to even state their case with agnostics or atheists, or those of other faiths... and that doesn't even chip the surface of the iceberg on the conscience and subconscience of them... the truth for most of those people I know, is even if they had the guts to debate, they probably wouldn't because they recognize they're nothing like the Jesus they believe in, so they're afraid of being a bad witness to their faith and then their witness dies before the words even get off their tongue. it kind of makes me feel like the intolerant ones are not the christians and the christians are just scared of you... most of them don't even recall that their "prime directive", if you will, is simply to explain their Bible, not to fight with anybody about it.
I'm done. sorry, just having fun.

Because it was a common form of execution designed to make the death slow and painful. Ever broken your feet? Then you can imagine how much pain you'd go through with two stakes jabbed into them.

Really sorry 4 the triple post, but i was skimming through this topic, and people were talking about there being so many believers. The reason is because we are hard wired to believe so, by whoever raises us, and by the communal environment that shuns us so. thats partially why kids will beleive in retarded shit like Santa, they assume there parents are right and truthful, even though the children would never accept that stuff on there own.

I totally agree, people only belive in God because their parents brain washed them. That's why muslim children have muslim parents and christian children have christian parents.

Indoctrinating a delusional tradition... I mean, it's fine if they choose to be Christian, but I am whole heartedly against anyone who wishes to forcefully indoctrinate their child into a belief. I think it's just wrong. Plus, they'll always be those "mamma says" type kids until they grow up. Rather sad actually.

Consider yourself lucky, my mom will believe anything if it's in a video or book. She's fleeing to Mexico because she thinks the us government is going to institute martial law and become all fascist and shit, like soviet russia. She also believes the sons sister star, or, planet x, is going to come in 2012 and suddenly change the earth's orbit, causing a sudden change in climate all over, threatening life all over the planet.

I believe it has nothing to do with religion these days. Most people today are liberal, and most teens and young adults do not attend church. However, most find homosexuality wrong. It's partly do to tradition, the old "everyone hates em, so i should" thing, or it's due to the fact whenever someone mentions they're gay, the straight person, oddly enough, immediately thinks of men kissing and buttfucking, thus they end up finding homosexuality to be more disgusting than anything else.
Really, it's just intolerance. Ignorance, and plain stupidity. They judge you because they wonder "why is he not like me?" they hold you to a double standard. Society, no matter where you go, is always going to have people like this. Usually not as bad after you get out of highschool tho, I hear.

Really, it's just intolerance. Ignorance, and plain stupidity. They judge you because they wonder "why is he not like me?" they hold you to a double standard. Society, no matter where you go, is always going to have people like this. Usually not as bad after you get out of highschool tho, I hear.
yeah, i guess. and it is easier in high school.

ok... listen up guys! has anyone heard of the cult landmark education? no, well prepare to be creeped out. i did not write it and i can't tell ya where i found this so don't ask.
"I have an account on "Linkedin" -- a professional networking site. Part of the site lets you answer questions posted by other members. I answered a post asking "where is the center of your consciousness..." To which I answered "around Avenue A and St. Marks Place." Soon after I received a personal message wanting to discuss further "if I was serious and not just joking." Duh, yeah, it's a joke dumbass. So I checked out his profile, and sure enough he's a counselor (recruiter) for Landmark Education (the cult-like organization formerly known as Erhart Seminar Training -- EST). Well creep me out ten ways!! Eeeeew!
I just reported the question as a recruiting tool, and they've taken down the question for now -- hopefully permanently. But --- Eeeeeew!"

How is a conversation hungry organization malicious? Seeing as, if you don't want them talking to you, you could just... oh, I don't know, ignore them?
Me: sex is fun God: it is more fun alone.

i did not explain myself properly, they seek people out, through tricking them. pretend topics, disguised seminars, tricking companies into letting them do "motivational speaking", invading personal privacy when you ask them to leave you alone, tiger traps(the whole shebang).
