yeah, but wasn't it standard to nail both feet one on top of another? that's the design I always see on crucifixes.

i never reolized how central god was to the AA 12 step program untill i read the 12 steps. 6 of the steps are either about god or refering to him. although the twelth also mentions having a "spiritual awakening"
2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.
5. Admitted to God, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
7. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.
11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.

Interesting. I'm sure there are people who are just as you described, who wont argue at all beacuse of being timid and such. I never said there weren't. But are you saying that they won't debate religion beacuse they know that they will surely lose? If that's the case they're only christians to "go with the flow" so to speak. And those who attack you beacuse of your beliefs, i believe, are the true christians. Beacuse frankly, what i understand from the bible, is that you shouldn't be tolerant. In fact, as long as you agree with God, you can be as intolerant as you like, and stone people for stupid things as "blasphemy". Of course it isn't that extreme nowadays, but still quite frightening :S

sorry 4 the confusion(still angry emoticon).
My statement still stands. Just like Jehovies in public handing out bibles and pamphlets on how false religion is destroying the earth, you can ignore them, ask them to stop, hell you could even tell them "fuck off bitch" but then you'd get twice as many jehovies coming at you bitching about how you're close minded, but usually eventually they get the picture and stop bothering you. Tho, a lot of em will probably say shit about you behind your back, ruining your reputation in the town, and telling their kids not to socialize with you.

Im not an atheist, as anyone that read the science vs relligion thread would know.
But I just want to say thanks for having this thread, it keeps the 'god suk's' threads low in number.
However I cant help but notice that there is so much that relligion has that atheism doesnt replace.
There is colledge courses on Theology, there is no Atheology, there is also no songs about atheism.
(but most christian music sucks anyway)
Now why is that?

oh, no it's not that I feel bad at all, I'm actually smiling that you said that, and that you're the only person who's EVER said that in my long, boring life so far - look at my profile, it says I'm 80, so it must be true, right? ... ah to be 15 again...
but......... I digress. I hate to do that to thread authors, but it happens. Atheism! you are all ordered to talk about it! *kidding*
what if I proposed that atheists are actually agnostics who just want to protect themselves a little more than an agnostic would?

Let me answer your question with another question: "who cares?" What makes sense makes sense, and that's all there is to it. Obviously if they made college courses about unicorns, would that make it anymore important than atheism, or anything else for that matter? You also fail to realize that a lot of the people studying those theology courses are in fact, atheists. Mythology and religion are a good way to understand our fellow man's thinking, and it teaches us a lot about society.
Also, there is atheistic music. And why do you care if atheism lacks ritual and dogma? You have those things in your life, they make you happy, praying makes you happy, so what does it matter so long as you're happy?
Atheists choose this path because it makes more sense to them, and tho giving up god is sort of hard for some, many find it very liberating and excellent that they are in complete control of their own destiny. May seem isolated, but hey, there's billions of people on this earth, plus the possibility of aliens, to keep us from getting lonely. :D

I hope this post begins to answer: I could suggest to you that if the Gospel is "Truth", then there is nothing to debate, only to present, and that is the broadest command for a christian (Mt 28:18); the next part is how christians do it, which is where things often go wrong. Jesus never preached that his disciples should beat anyone into submission over it, which honestly comes from the christians who don't understand the intended heart of their faith. in fact he said things like "if you say to your brother 'raca' (empty-headed, basically offending the brother) it is just as if you'd murdered him"... seems crazy at first, but another part of the Bible says "all sin is equal in the eyes of God", so an insult would kind of be just as bad as murder just because it's against God's nature...
but before I go too far afield, which I hate to do, I'm stepping back to the subject. the basic command for a christian is to present the Truth of the Gospel, but do it in a very discernable way. the rundown of how: patiently, kindly, not enviously, not boasting, not proud, not easily angered, doesn't keep tabs on what someone did wrong, not pleased by evil but truth, by protecting, trusting and hoping. (1Cor 13:4-7) and, that is a tall order. obviously nobody can do that perfectly, and christians say Jesus has that covered if an individual accepts him as ransom for their sin.
one more short illustration and reflection:
some powerful legalistic religious people with already bad attitudes brought a woman to Jesus and told him she'd been living a life of sin. (standard punishment was stoning to death). his immediate response was that the person among them without any sin has the right to throw the first stone at her. nobody stoned her, and that's good because she might've been cute. o.O *nevermind that last part*

I kind of didn't answer the question and addressed the end of your response. oops. yes, OFTEN, not always, christians are afraid they'll lose, in the cases I'm thinking about - because they're pretty much focused on what they want to tell you instead of just directly addressing whatever the issue is out of what they know out of the Bible. see what I said about nobody being perfect? I didn't even address the right issue.

Why do people even ask? The only benefit of joining is to post, which you can already obviously do, so it doesn't matter what anyone says, if you post, you're technically a member. Really, the clubs and crews aren't really clubs or crews, but topics that have a specific subject. So, really, anyone can come in and post in them, doesn't matter whether anyone says you can join or not.
Now, to help you a lil with your confusion: just think of it like this:
the universe is existance itself. If god created the universe, he'd have to exist outside of it. He can exist outside of existance? Also, let's say he was in another universe than, well, this doesn't work because then it goes into the chicken vs. egg type thing. If he created our universe from another, who created that universe, and so on and so on, to infinity.

This is just a continuation of something i said on the newgrounds christian fellowship:
I'm not a full athiest, just to let you know. I'm not a christian, either. I believe that there's something out there, but not nececarily a God. Something that made us, but then left us on our own to deal with going through life and death. Eventually, the people and creatures learned to adapt and created basic ways to communicate. They created many things and learned even more. eventually, people became overpowered with needs. Most of these needs were natural needs, but some needed more. Money and power. Thus, the christian faith was made, as well as the bible, churches, and a bunch of lies to trick people into thinking things like "Men are much more important than women" "God needs money" and who could forget that old classic "everything your priest tells you is completely true". Does God, or a god, really need money? I don't think so. Plus, when people join the christian faith, they're either 1: Replacing they're opinions and beliefs completely or 2: Replacing most of they're beliefs with the churches, but still having they're own opinions on some things. And all the religion really has to go on is they're words, and millions of copys of one, count 'em, ONE book, that is said to be made by the hands of God himself. They still say that about every plastic-covered, cheap-paged version of the bible. If I don't believe the bible, than there's still words. And people believe every word. I'm glad that there's this largely established Athiest Army. It shows that there's about as many athiests as there are christians. I won't be joining, I'll just be looking at this from time to time.

You seem to be an odd mix between a deist(one who believes that there was a god, but he abandoned the universe), and an agnostic(one who isn't sure, or thinks there's got to be something out there, maybe not god, but something, but accepts they don't know for sure). Either way, I respect your views, and I'm sure everyone here welcomes you and your views as well.
Me: sex is fun God: it is more fun alone.

but since this is on the last page i left it on, i don't think i'll get any........
even though i'm an atheist, i go to a catholic school.
i'd like to go to a public school, but i don't want to leave my friends behind.
Grin and bear it. Laugh the religion off whenever it comes up. My college mates went to a catholic school and they were all atheist or agnostic or theists - very loose belief, nothing to do with Mary and Jesus - at the end of it, and I'm sure that happens pretty often.
