Basically, a club for Progressive musicians, fans and other sorts to get together.
Talk about bands that are on the roundabout, talk about what you're doing to bring progressive back, and connect with others.

Some Personal things:
- I do not consider Opeth or Tool to be progressive.
- Indie =/= Prog.
- New-Prog is a form of Indie.
- Neo-Prog is not New-Prog.
- Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band started Progressive Rock, due to Harrison.

What a shame, Mister Jensen.

I never asked for this, Mister Denton.

My favorite prog bands

Kingston Wall
Von hertzen brothers
Pink Floyd
Porcupine tree
Yakuza

Also, Tool and Opeth unless you give a good reason why they aren't progressive.

Agreed. I have yet to find another band that even remotely sounds like them. And last time I checked, 10 minute songs with retardly complex drum beats and guitar timing is not mainstream.

This looks froody.

He's probably just pissed because everyone else likes Tool, and he doesn't. On a semi-related note, is Opeth any good? I've never listened to them before.

Yes, they combine acoustic/mellow stuff with extreme metal, and their songs are quite long. I suggest you check them out.

Nice, I will then. Any songs in particular I should look for?

I think Opeth albums work best as full albums and there is generally a concept behind them.
Some of their stuff is quite hard to endure though. If you like Prog you should be able to tolerant them more, but they are kind of repetitive.

Album wise Still Life and My Arms, Your Hearse are my two favourite albums. And Damnation which is all acoustic and absolutely beautiful. It's also very Porcupine Tree (and rightly so as Steve Wilson was heavily involved).
Blackwater Park is popular too, but I dislike the album apart from a few songs.

Song wise check out:
The Moor
When
Blackwater Park

All acoustic songs:
Harvest
Windowpane

Should be enough for ya :).

Prog is good. I like prog. proggy prog prog.

I like a lot of prog rock, new and old (more than just the usual Rush Yes, ELP, etc.), as well as a lot of prog metal.

About time I found a thread like this. I'll start with my favorite prog bands:

1. Pink Floyd
2. Rush
3. ELP
4. Genesis
5. Asia
6. Yes

And I have noticed one thing. A lot of the same musicians that are in the above bands (with the exception of Pink Floyd and Rush) were all in the same groups at one time or another.

Everything he said, only Stratovarius isn't progie, with the exceptions of there 5 or so 10+ minute long songs.

That is blasphemy. That's like saying Emeniem isn't a rap artist just because hes white.

Seriously, that's just wrong.

Both progressive and both great.

Nope, disregard that. I'm a motherfucking moron.

1) I confused Opeth with OTEP. Which is a shitty Nu-Metal band. But thanks to AniMetal, the difference is fixed.
2) After listening to more Tool except Prison Sex (Where I based my blatant, stupid remark), It's safe to say you're right. Sorry.

I also haven't kept this thing under control due to the belief of it being a flop.

What a shame, Mister Jensen.

Cynic is brilliant, at least their album Focus is. I still haven't heard Traced in Air.

Traced In Air sounds way too much like a "generic prog baalbum"

Focus just kicks ass :)

When I was younger, I had a massive affinity for prog. Not as big of a fan of it as I was then, but I still enjoy it.

Pink Floyd, some Bowie, Beatles, Mazzy Star, and select Dream Theatre songs are pretty good. Tool is a pretty good band as well, I just felt like mentioning them.

CCR is Progressive? Right? You can hear some of it from Ramble Tamble and I Heard it From The Grapevine.

Hm, never really thought of CCR that way, they always seemed like a folk band to me.
