Reviews for "A Thug in Time Intro"

Good animation, bad voice acting choices.

boybogart responds:

Bad audio editing in my case. :(

Your style is so clean and professional, it has that TV quality that really makes it shine IMO. You did a great job with the lightning effects and blur, also, I liked how you changed your style for a more rustic look during the Indian's story. Greab job man! Can't wait for your next stuff. :)

boybogart responds:

Man, you're the first one to notice that change of style. Thanks Psho, looking forward to your next stuff as well!

Did Seymour voice everything, or just Kai? Because even if the blatant and tasteless audio editing wasn't there, the acting itself still seemed below his quality bar. Except for Kai, which was so much better in quality that I felt relieved when his voice did briefly come on. Anyway, THAT, is why you don't just go "Ah, fuck it, I can just Change Pitch the audio lower." Because the more you mess with it, the more it sounds like a twelve year old fucking around with a Darth Vader mask.

I'm not much better or anything though, and I won't pretend I don't understand why that choice ends up being made. Hey, sometimes you just can't seem to find the right voice in time and you gotta get it done with who you DID find, but you just have to be careful with it, because if you just slap that shit on there, it's going to hurt more than it's going to help. That voice was so poorly done (whether the fault of the actor or post-editing), that it honestly ruined this video for me. I would have enjoyed this more if it had no voices at all (though I would have had no clue what the fuck was going on), because the animation quality was stellar.

But I get it, it's just a little intro for the game, so it's not really top priority for the project, and that's actually completely fine in my book, depending on how much the game cares about the story it has to tell. If it's basically TimeSplitters and it's like "Honestly, the story's just an excuse for all this rad shit to happen", then not giving a damn is perfectly acceptable. Especially for a phone game.

If you honestly need more actors or something though, I'll happily pitch in, just message me, no problem.

boybogart responds:

Hey man, thanks for the detailed comment. Yeah, we did the best we can in the time given and we're still pretty happy with the outcome. :)

... if this was about mayans, what was doing the aztec calendar there?

boybogart responds:

Lol you got me. I was running out of textures so added I an aztec calender.

I'll be straight with ya mate, it was good. I really did enjoy it, the animation was smooth and I can dig the story.

The issue however (I think) lies in the voice actor. He just doesn't fit it in my opinion. A slightly higher toned voice would do wonders.

boybogart responds:

Thanks Akeman!
