Reviews for "Mars Colonies Demo"

Did you know that on mars, there is a volcano that is so big it sticks out of the atmosphere, and if you are at the bottom of it, you can see on the horizon the other end of the volcano, so where is this giant volcano in this game?

After skimming through comments..people here are both stupid and can't type.

As for the game, that's quite original project. Well, not as a sim, mind you. But the design and concept.
It actually can be a bit difficult due to need of resource management.
So far I pretty much like it. Although there are two things that annoy me.

First - It's progressing at turtle speed. Sometimes when waiting for materials, and afterwards, for colonists to pick the stuff and do their thing, I totally wish to be able and speed the time flow of the game.

Second - The fact that metal deposits can run out, is a real low blow. Considering that each time 'mine' needs to be placed a bit further away..cable costs extend. And before I know it, I'm spending tons to get components from Earth...a real ploy that one.

Regardless, all in all, good stuff to play.

Kendja responds:

Glad you liked it!

You can now speed up the time flow by holding [S] key.

For mines - I've lowered "order"prices a bit, so I hope it's a little more balanced now. Also you can try to build Power Stations next to the buildings if they are too far away from the main base.

Overall, a pretty nice strategy game. Just a few things.

1- It needs a Fast Forward button: there are times when nothing special is happening and you are waiting to gather some resource and you just want to speed up things.

2- You should be able to rotate buildings: i find a bit annoying how buildings that need Electricity or Water can't be redirectioned. It only makes you waste (scarce) materials drawing some absurd patterns with cable and pipe lines.

3- The prices to order resources should be lower and the hire prices should be higher: should be a little harder to bring people to work in your base, i always do that really quick and without problems. Now, i've been stuck for half an hour or more waiting for things like Components (which are not easy to produce). So, the process of extraction of Science! > purchase of materials could be REALLY slow and boring.

On the bright side, the graphics, music and SFx are good; the gameplay is easy to understand but hard to master (i like challenges); details like the attributes of the workers, the hiden geo-resources, the crazy colonist and other things that complicate up things in a good way.

So, my final rate is: 4 stars. I hope this review helps you to improve the game in the future, i would like to see it better :)

Kendja responds:

Hey thanks for the great feedback!

To anyone commenting "They just won't build the pipes!": You need components.

Anyway, it's a nice and fun game. It is a bit slow though, I'm currently at the third level right now and I was wondering if there are any ways for my workers to deliver science (Heheh) other than taking it all the way back to the Control Center.

Also; the tutorial level needs a few things to explain too, for example the outlets of water and energy and that if you remove the pipes, you won't get anything back.

Kendja responds:

Just added speed up feature.

Your workers will be deliver minerals into Research Center instead of Control Center if you have one.

The concept of the game is really good but the game itself is so slow.. I had to sit there for about 35 mins just waiting for my scientists to gather some stuff. A speed up option would be one of the best things to add or atleast find a way to make the player actually stay awake while playing.
