Coooool Its Nice and Scary I Really Like IT

ProgressivegamesDLE responds:

Thanks! :)

UGH! I hate this kinda crap! Nothing but jump scares! Nothing to creep me out or tell a story while I look for the marbles. (seriously marbles?) and a time limit, that's probably the worst thing to have in a game in my opinion. Horror is about isolation and the feeling of being alone (which was done pretty good) but also includes subtlety. Make a person paranoid, but not by making them nervous to click on a scene to see what jumps at them. Rather, something more that reveals a place that just seems... normal. Example, Silent Hill 3 you enter a room and there is a giant mirror. Ok, whatever. You try to go out the door you used to come in. Ok, that's weird. Suddenly you see your own reflection dripping in blood and laughing hysterically. Ok, now it's just getting creepy. But now the room starts to fill up with blood as the more the mirror 'you' bleeds and seeps out of pieces of the broken glass. AGH! GET ME THE HELL OUT OF HERE!!
Like Yahtzee has said in the past, this game is the "jump out of the closet and go abloogy woogy woo" type. It made me jump, yes. But I get irritated rather than scared. I found myself growing more and more frustrated over time before I just didn't care enough.

HOWEVER the graphic design is great. A lot of potential. Just don't waste it on jump scares, it's the cheapest kind of scare of all scares.

Hey, Spongeman25.
Thanks for the detailed response. We're glad you appreciate the graphic design. And we really do appreciate your feedback concerning ambience. It's great for us to find out what types of scares people really enjoy. Can't give too much away, but you'll find our upcoming products moving more and more in the direction of the kind of atmosphere you're looking for... :)

I just finished it for the first time with 6 marbles. I don't think I'm going to play that again for a while. I can't take it. That is by far the scariest game I've played. I'll probably come back to this gem later, though. Anyone up to the horror in this game should experience this by all means. For the full effect, play in a room all by yourself with the lights off and the volume maxed out.

ProgressivegamesDLE responds:

Thanks! We're glad you found the game scary! Have you tried it again?

First off, I love the concept and the atmosphere of the game. It has the potential to be a really good game. I have to agree with most people that the navigation was a bit of a nightmare (no pun intended) I'd suggest getting rid of the timer and maybe adding a little more depth to the story. Maybe you have to find the marbles and then the girl gives you a key to unlock some door. That was another thing SO many doors in all these photos that can't be opened. You'd have a lot more cool scary exploring to do if they opened. Still not sure what the phone was for and I beat it without touching it. Maybe some ghost can chase you down at some point? Something cool like that, you're a smart group you can figure something out.

Bonus points for making me jump out of my chair a little bit, and further bonus points because the girl crawling down the hallway at the start of the game telling me to wake up is super cute. A good game that with some fine tuning could be a GREAT game. Hope to see more from you in the future.

ProgressivegamesDLE responds:

Thanks so much for your response. :) We definitely wanted to do much more with this, but since it was just a beta test for the elements that we want to use in future projects, we wanted to get it out to the public quickly so we could get some feedback. You have some great suggestions, right up our alley!

scary
