Why Am I Dead is a retro-style mystery game. You've recently been killed. Play as your disembodied ghost, take over control of other people in the hotel and investigate your own murder.

Use WASD to move around the hotel, press the space bar or Z to possess or de-possess people. Press E to open doors and interact with people. Use the arrow keys or W and S to select an answer if there are multiple options during a conversation.

Hey guys! Actually I've made updates to my game prior to today, but haven't edited the description. Fixed some bugs, including the problems Internet Explorer had with the preloader. Yay! I also implemented medals.

...And I also added some extra content! I had originally cut a lot of stuff out of the game, thinking no one would find it or care anyway. But the feedback I've gotten here motivated me to put some more work into the game, even if it's just a little. I want to give a huge, warm THANK YOU to everyone for your time and attention. :D

UPDATE: 11/18 7:25 PM EST
New version adds a link to a walkthrough in the pause menu, and fixes the unintentionally sadistic placement of the "Return to Main Menu" button.

Thanks to everyone for all of your feedback! I truly appreciate it. This is a really hectic weekend for me, so I've been struggling to react to your feedback as quickly as I'd like to. Thank you for your patience and support.

UPDATE: 11/17 7:30 PM EST
Uploaded a new version which fixes a bug with Morgan's dialogue and prevents the problem that some of you had with the final part of the game.

I love the core game mechanic of having the main character possess different bodies. It really gives potential to more complex interactions, something I felt was lacking a little in the game.
For example, the relationship between orvull and the black haired man could have really been fleshed out - they spent time together before the murder, would they have known something? instead, when I made them talk to each other, the conversation felt shallow. This could have been implemented for higher immersion, intrigue and answers.
Also (please don't hurt me), contrary to many of the answers before me, I felt as if the ending was cliche. If you've read much crime fiction, you'd know what I mean. It felt was kind of cheap.

Also, the characters did not react to being possessed at all?

Nevertheless, great work and I love what you've started here. The story was mostly awesome and you made interesting and fleshed out characters. Especially that little girl. Hilarious.

well i have to say , this is a quite brilliant idea for a new game and i enjoy this , the mechanism is nice. but the plot and the investigating well kinda fail a bit. but then it still amazing, something fresh for gamer.

P.S: Spoiler is everywhere

I didn't think that I would like this as much as I did!
I just wish there was more happening with the ghost than just using him as a game mechanism. You're meant to be investigating your own murder, but it's more like the ghost is just jumping in people's bodies, letting them do everything instead of properly possessing them. And that ending, the ghost wasn't involved at all!
Other than that though, the game was highly enjoyable. To the point that you really should have expanded on some of what was not discussed much. Nonetheless, this game was amazing

EPIC, puzzling and fun! I noticed at least 1other person agreed that this game could have been longer, i almost suspected Cricket from the start, and i was right! Anyway there needs to be more storyline! I'd like to see Randy battling Cricket to find out how to clear his name!(too much exclamtion!?!? too bad!!)
