Probably everybody knows this one. These guys lack from visual expressions, which makes them very misterious. The form they are animated and placed usually makes 'em look like they're slouched, which adds very much to their mistery and discomforting nature.

Yeah, sort of. His threatment as a thingamajig works for his existency in the glade of dreams, and his design makes him both very free in movement and very easy to animate, which is excellent for a character whose games are recognized for their master artistry and dinamyc gameplay

headbands. When I was little people would always hate on wearing them irl or drawing them all the time. THEY LOOK SO COOL! A good example is Bardock from DBZ. In the movie when he grabs his comrades headband and its becomes red from their blood. Certified badass

coming back because ijust remembered another trope but characters that are just normal regular ass humans except they have an animals head and there are no other notable features about them

For me, it's gotta be characters who limbs can stretch and extend, it's one of those designs where you can tell an animator or artist is just having fun with them.
Another is just simple/casual clothing on characters, nothing much but I prefer simple but memorable designs over overly complicated ones.

One thing I appreciate is when a non-mammalian female character doesn't really have breasts. Don't get me wrong, the female figure is a work of art, and I'm not instantly uninterested if the character has a bit more figure than the male, but I can only handle so much before it just looks ridiculous. I just can't take something like this seriously:

Frankly, I think as a whole, I like when the female version of a cartoon animal looks similar to the male counterpart rather than sexing it up so that we know the animal's a lady
Asymmetrical pants with one bare leg. Like a pair of pants 👖 but it's got one leg cut off at the hips. You can also get the effect from one stocking.
It has to be clearly intentional though. Put a belt on the bare thigh or something.
-Goat and snake eyes on non-goats and non-snakes.
-Robot limbs/appendages where the inner workings are readily visible (think Treasure Planet's version of John Silver, or Edward Steam)
-Facial scars that are properly disfiguring and not essentially an accessory. Not necessarily all the way into Twoface territory but in that general direction. Also the broader category of facial asymmetry.
-Coats with sleeves draped over the shoulders with the sleeves unused.
-Thick stripes, most preferably black and white but any dark+light combination does it for me if done well.

very specific - zombies covered in cartoony stitches. its so nonsensical and silly but also really cute, leans into that spooky-but-adorable vibe a whole lot. im also a sucker for creepy circus motifs, nothin' better than a good old fashioned evil clown.

Well that's nice to hear, since i give most of my characters slits for pupils (exceptions are jodi stauver, van grie, and maybe pefenskard)
Women with simple faces, I love them so much. I feel you can convey a lot with very little and still make an appealing design. Yet, it takes a lot to properly get it right.
