I'm a big fan of physically impossible hairstyles. They tend to translate really poorly into 3D but I love how exaggerated hair can add a lot of personality to a design and make it look so much more cartoony if that's what you're going for.
Also, not strictly character design but since it's a big part of it, I think the "stylistic suck" trope can be really funny or even genuinely appealing when it's done right. The best examples (at least in my eyes) happen when an artist can very obviously draw well if they want to, but make the conscious decision to design a character/world/style in a way that doesn't line up with the typical quality of their work. That being said, you probably do have to be careful not to get too stuck in only making intentionally janky artwork. It's always sad to see a good art style get noticeably worse over time when it wasn't done on purpose.
