This marked our second annual Pixel Day, an event suggested by @RealFaction. Judging this year has once again been by @RealFaction and myself.

The top three in each category will receive $100, $50 and $30 respectively.

Thank you again to everyone who helped create another successful Pixel Day! I'll admit I was expecting a larger turnout in the Art Portal and I have plans to address that next year. There is definitely WAAAAAY more room for awareness of this event.

Global Game Jam

This past weekend was also the 2017 Global Game Jam, where developers met up around the world to make games in 48 hours. If you made a web game, be sure to share and tag it with "ggj17" here on NG!

@01010111 invited me to Richmond, VA to give a talk at the RVA Game Jams site for the Global Game Jam. It was great meeting everyone and showing my kids a game jam in action. I also got to meet @moawling, who was super delightful and not at all creepy like in her profile picture.

Other Stuff

If you suffer from seasonal depression or just straight up depression, remember there will be better days ahead. If you feel like you're getting caught up in all the negative stuff happening in the world or in your life, try to do something this week to make other people smile. You could write a positive review for something you like here on NG!

Our refactoring of the favorites system is making great progress and will be opening up a lot of new possibilities. For example, won't it be nice to finally see who has favorited your work? Or even find out the moment it happens in your feed? We can all use a little more positive reinforcement.

General reminder: If you are making an animation or game to share on NG, we have created a list of royalty-free music resources you can use. NG can't host unlicensed commercial audio, so please resist sticking your favorite song from the radio in there. Also, it is a big help when you properly credit the music in your submission, so no one has to ask and I won't have to unpublish your work while I check.

Finally, we're close to hitting our new monthly support target. Please consider becoming a supporter so we can go all the way and keep moving towards more ambitious goals! If we go $720 over our January goal it would completely cover the Pixel Day prizes. That's a long-shot but I'm just putting it out there.

When I first started uploading my shitty pixel art here on Newgrounds I never thought I would get this far. I know it's not much for some people but for me this means the world.
Also many thanks to @Fretzone who did more than the required and made an amazing soundtrack.
Oh and @MadNukin who learn Haxe while making this game.

But crippling depression is funny. If your not wanting to kill yourself constantly isn't something you can make fun of and laugh.

Man, that bit about seasonal depression hit me. I've been in a rut since like, late November, and I hadn't even thought it could be that, but it makes sense. I think I'm slowly getting out of it though. Just gotta force myself to make stuff ;3

I really wish I had finished the cartoon I was working on for Pixel Day. I wrote it for Pixel Day last year :/

The games category was super strong this year, so many great contenders. I really liked The Shyning and it was great to see medals working in a Game Maker game, too!

If I wasn't a total loser we'd have a Pixel Day event at the office with live chiptunes and pixel art gallery and game stations and animation projected on the wall and all that cool stuff that I fail to do.

I was gonna make a short little game for Pixel Day but my SSD with my OS died and I couldn't get it fixed with all the stuff set up until the day before Pixel Day :( Hopefully that doesn't happen next year lol
