Highlights from the Week, Robot Day

During the Friday broadcast we determined that we WILL have another Robot Day this year. Like last year it will be JULY 10th. This day is a celebration of robots, so it would be a great day to submit movies, games, art, music and literature about robots. I'll make some individual threads for those soon and come up with some prizes.

--- MONDAY MORNING ADDITION ---

It's been a shaky week for advertising. Quick notes:

1) If you were browsing NG with Chrome over the weekend, you may have had a notice appear that something on the page was associated with a malware site. This was due to a specific banner ad in the rotation and has been removed, although we're told it may take a moment to propagate through the ad system.

2) If you are running Flash Ads, you may have noticed a More Games "bonus ad" that loads up in the bottom left corner. We didn't consent to this addition to the ad stream and are waiting on it to be removed. In the future we'll see about setting it up as an additional feed for people who specify they want to include it with their ads.

When you see these long lists I post each week, think of it this way - an entire week of game and movie submissions have been condensed to this one list of things that might interest you. Give it a scan and post about your favorites! It makes us feel good for making a list and it makes these underdog artists feel good when you acknowledge their stuff.

I'm really glad that Robot Day got to go on again. Last year people were saying that the response to it wasn't as virulent as the likes of Pico Day or Madness Day.

To which I replied "Fuck you, I like robots". So I'm glad.

As, didn't watch the broadcast because that would involve getting up at 3am. Checking out a few of the flashes now - they're alright.

The outturn of Robot Day wasn't that impressive last year if I recall it correctly, but as long as people have fun with it it's cool. It should at least lead to some interesting submissions.

Personally I'm looking more forward to the Game Jam.

I think I read a thread in General saying something similar.
Most of the art guys are pretty excited about it, since there was a huge turnout of robot related art.
In the art portal, there was more than a 100 submissions, and quite a lot can be achieved with robot themed pics.

TharosTheDragon and Test-object are running an art collab for a robot day game, if anybody fancies drawing a robot.

I'm getting a feeling, this case may be repeated. Robot day seems to have snuck up on animation community this year, with all the Jams, competitions, and other Newgroundays distracting them.

I'm hoping there will be at least a handful of those dedicated RD animators who'll have long-term entries ready to present.

Other than that, I personally really love the music and art that comes out of RD.
