Not a banner day for the Big Ten today, going 1-4 in today's bowl games. As usual, Wisconsin choked again in the Rose Bowl and as for Ohio State, to put it nicely, they finished taking a dump on their season by getting stomped by Florida. The Big Ten teams need to stop treating these bowl games like it's a fucking joke, and actually try to win these games, then maybe people wouldn't trash the conference anymore.

For the Big Ten's sake, they better hope that Michigan wins the Sugar Bowl, and bring some creditability back to the conference.

Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.

VTech is good but I think Michigan has this one.

The Pokes won or rather Stanford's kicker gave it away twice. I'm going to hear this all off season but at least Blackmon is gone.

I'd like to jump in on the predictions- I Iurk this thread a lot, but rarely post as I don't feel like I have the same level of knowledge as a lot of you. I lived in Denver for a year back in 06 and have followed the Broncos ever since, but this is the first year since then that I have been able to watch games most weeks and really get back into it again.

Last season I picked the Packers to go all the way before the playoffs started, which then was a bit of a surprise. This season I refuse to go for them again as I hate picking the favourites, so I'll plump for a surprise, with the Ravens going all the way to the big game.

As for this week:

Saturday
Cincinnati at Houston - Texans
Detroit at New Orleans - Saints
Sunday
Atlanta at New York Giants - Falcons
Pittsburgh at Denver - Steelers

I'd love to pick the Broncos, and three weeks ago I might have considered it, but they just aren't good enough to beat teams of this level. Their only chance for me is an 'act of God', but more in terms of some extreme Colorado weather than the hand of Tebow. A nice blizzard and I'd fancy the Broncos running game to take it.

Well I really hope you're right about that. If the Ravens can cut out the inconsistency bullshit, they definitely have a good chance at making this their second super bowl victory, if not they don't stand much of a chance against some of these teams. The good news for the Ravens is they have been a MUCH more dominant team when playing at home, which is why I'm glad they clinched the division. There's definitely some stiff competition for them, but if they play to their full potential, I like their chances against any team in the league.

VTech is good but I think Michigan has this one.

It seems like everyone is hopping on the Va Tech bandwagon now, even though they did finish flat on their face against a potent offense of Clemson in the ACC championship game. Now it definitely feels like Michigan is getting disrespected more so than the Hokies, I dare say.

As good as Va Tech is on special teams and defense, I can't really see them keeping up with the most potent offense they have faced this year in Michigan and I do expect Denard Robinson to have a big game running and passing the ball, as he seems to do in every big game they are in.

Very sad to see Wisconsin lose another Rose Bowl.

The Big Ten was getting killed all day losing to the SEC and at least Michigan State managed to do us proud and show Georgia how The Big Ten plays its football.

I'd say this year's loss in the Rose Bowl stung more because it was a chance to prove ourselves against a team that easily outclasses anyone in the Big Ten. We were right there with them the whole game and then the turnovers just screwed us over. With that ridiculous interception and that even more implausible fumble things didn't seem to be going our way.

Michigan better beat Virginia Tech.

Maybe he read your posts so the Charger's owner kept him just to spite you. As long the Chargers keeps on failing on their quest to win their first SB title despite the talents they have, I'm glad.

Serve A.J. Smith right for the same reason why Rex Ryan's tears satisfied me.

Anyway, anyone have pictures of what the NFL AP awards look like? I know what the current awards look like but several years ago, the MVP was huge.

Guess they changed it to make it easier for players to carry.

Do other awards like the "Defensive Player of the Year" look the same as the MVP award?

Simulated the Cincinnati v. Houston game in Tecmo Super Bowl (computer v. computer) with modern rosters. I am pleased with the result.

That easily would probably be the score for the 1st quarter and just keep going up from there, considering that both offenses are powerful and their defenses are meh at best. Unless they think that Suh is going to be that much of a difference maker.

Speaking of powerful offenses, West Virginia is putting an asswhipping on Clemson 49-20 at the half. I really don't know how Dabo can get excited at this point, considering they can't stop Tavon Austin and Geno Smith.

Tecmo Super Bowl (Same as before, computer v. computer) believes that a modern Steelers team will just barely beat a modern Broncos team. Interesting.

I've been tinkering around with some football stats and here's some interesting numbers and figures that I've pulled up:

NFL teams in the 2012 playoffs and their last Super Bowl appearance:

AFC:

6. Cincinnati: Went to Super Bowl in 1989 and lost to San Francisco
5. Pittsburgh: Went to Super Bowl in 2011 and lost to Green Bay
4. Denver: Went to Super Bowl in 1999 and beat Atlanta
3. Houston: Never Been to Super Bowl
2. Baltimore: Went to Super Bowl in 2001 and beat New York
1. New England: Went to Super Bowl in 2008 and lost to New York

NFC:

6. Detroit: Never Been to Super Bowl
5. Atlanta: Went to Super Bowl in 1999 and lost to Denver
4. New York: Went to Super Bowl in 2008 and beat New England
3. New Orleans: Went to Super Bowl in 2010 and beat Indianapolis
2. San Francisco: Went to Super Bowl in 1995 and beat San Diego
1. Green Bay: Went to Super Bowl in 2011 and beat Pittsburgh

Also, here's some possible (Though not necessarily probable) Super Bowl Rematches that could happen as a result of these playoffs:

*Name of Super Bowl* (Losing team v. Winning Team)
Rematch of Super Bowl XVI (Bengals v. 49ers)
Rematch of Super Bowl XXI (Broncos v. Giants)
Rematch of Super Bowl XXIII (Bengals v. 49ers)
Rematch of Super Bowl XXIV (Broncos v. 49ers)
Rematch of Super Bowl XXXI (Patriots v. Packers)
Rematch of Super Bowl XXXII (Packers v. Broncos)
Rematch of Super Bowl XXXIII (Falcons v. Broncos)
Rematch of Super Bowl XXXV (Giants v. Ravens)
Rematch of Super Bowl XLII (Patriots v. Giants)
Rematch of Super Bowl XLV (Steelers v. Packers)

So, that's what I put together. Tell me if any of my numbers are incorrect. Anyone think one of those rematches is going to end up being the Super Bowl game this year?

Most likely, it's going to be a rematch of SB XXXI with the Packers and the Patriots. It's obviously a much tougher path for the Packers to win the NFC, especially when the Saints can match score for score with them, and the Niners can keep their offense off the field by running the ball and get turnovers. Even with all that said, the Packers are just too good of a team and they'll represent the NFC.

As for the Patriots, all they have to worry about is Baltimore. The Steelers are too banged up to go any farther than the 2nd round, Texans are fading fast with QB injuries, and you never know what you'll get with the Bengals. As for the Ravens, they might give New England some trouble, but you can't trust Joe Flacco to make the right decision in the big games, and sometimes they don't give it to Ray Rice enough, which means they have to rely on Flacco for all of their big plays.

Both New England and Green Bay are virtual mirror images on both offense and defense, both have powerful pass offenses and a defenses that give up a shitload of yards, but are okay at scoring defense. In the preseason, I've said that the Patriots will win the Super Bowl over the Packers, partly because I believe that Brady and co. are way overdue, considering how good Tom Brady is playing right now.

I'd have to disagree with this, not that I think the Saints wouldn't win, but the 49ers would almost definitely be forced to kick more than 1 field goal. I'd say it would be something more along the lines of the 49ers having at least 3 field goals and 1 or maybe 2 touchdowns, with the Saints scoring several touchdowns and maybe a field goal or two. I think a score of 16-34 for the Saints would be much more probable. As far as the Ravens vs. Texans, I'd predict a lower scoring game, something like 13-24 for the Ravens maybe.
