This song sounds really nice and reminds me of some sewer or dream levels from really old Gameboy games. The song just seems to make you think you are fighting nightmarish creatures in the level as you must beat them to get back to sleep. Very beautifully done song and sounds great.

The synth sounds nice and has a solid up and down motion for it which is very nice. The secondary synth has a feel of an atmosphere coming at you and then just fading away as you keep on going farther and farther into the level. The bass sounds great and I enjoy the solid riff it has going.

Overall, very wonderful song, I like it a lot.

Thanks for the review, I'm really glad you enjoyed it!

I like this song. I like how it slowly builds up, adding a new thing every few seconds. I also like that there is some sort of outro towards the end of the loop. This way the loop works pretty good, except that there is a very slight timing error when the loop starts over. Maybe there's a quarter note missing at the end. It's not much, but the error is there.

Anyway, I still like it. Maybe the "bass line" (that deep humming sound) can get repetitive after a while, but on the other hand it does create a very relaxing and almost dream/sleep like atmosphere. As if I was drifting over to sleep... very nice!

I appreciate the review! I'm glad you liked the song. I don't know what it is that causes that timing error, since it works fine in .xm format. Maybe something went wrong when I converted the .wav file to an mp3.

Have a good one!

I like that the title suits it perfectly, the tenuto effect is relatable to the feeling one gets when tired; the pulsing sort of drowsiness, about to fall over, tired, but can't sleep..... I also kind of like 8bit themes in general. I thought it was a bit repetitive at times, but it was still very entertaining. At the very least, it's excellent background music.

Thanks for reviewing! I'm excited that I managed to provoke the idea of insomnia, since that's what I was going through when I was working on this.

Cheers!

Can't say I loved it.

This had a pretty nice melody and rhythm, but it felt lacking, perhaps because there was only one instrument being used, and I honestly didn't really love the sound of this instrument either.

It doesn't help that it felt like mostly the same thing throughout the three minutes this piece lasted, with the same basic 8 second melody repeating many times until halfway through (exactly 1:32), and then the new melody continues for the remaining half. Sure, there were a few changes or additions every two times the basic melody was played played, but it didn't prevent the piece from beginning to sound a bit repetitive. Of course, this isn't to say that the few changes which did occur weren't nice. It flowed pretty well, and I especially liked the low bass notes that came in around 0:16 and 1:48.

I didn't really like the ending either (if it can even be called that.) I'm assuming this was intended as three minute loop, but it doesn't even loop very well. There needs to be just a little bit more time after that last note so it still fits the rhythm when the song loops back to the first note.

If this wasn't intended as a loop, then the ending was really not good. There needs to be something after that last note; it just doesn't feel like an ending.

Overall, this isn't bad at all, but it needs much more variety and some work on the ending.

SuperBastard responds:

Thanks for the in-depth review! I'm not sure why it doesn't loop flawlessly, which is unfortunate. It was intended to be a loop to fill the soundbed of whatever project it could find a place in, so I didn't want to make it too busy or anything. I suppose I went a little overboard with the simplicity though, haha.

Great stuff! I love working within the limits of 4 channels, it gives a great challenge. Also, 1 instrument is also a really hard one to work with, I've done a couple before, but I haven't done it in a while.

The only thing about this song that gets me is that it doesn't have a whole lot of variation. But other than that, it's an awesome piece.

Keep it up! :b

Thanks! I did draw it out a bit much, I guess that's the problem with only having one idea to work with :P

I really appreciate the reviews!
