Sometimes my mind comes up with crazy ideas, especially when I'm watching videos at work.

So I was watching some nature videos about Nudibranch (better known as Sea Slugs) and I was captured by just how unique they look.

The sheer diversity with how each sea slug differs from each other.

And it made me think why people didn't look at them more for the sake of subjects for anthros.

But, at the same time, I can understand why people don't, as I find that some stranger marine life can be hard to visualize as an anthro.

However, that wasn't going to stop me, as I wanted to take the plunge, and I made a good enough attempt with Sofie Makala.

She wasn't based upon any specific type of Nudibranch, I just took aspects of sea slugs I found and merged it into Sofie's design.

I like the idea of using more angular designs for Sofie's "fin" parts.

Not to mention, I got to have the chance to make "fin clothing" for Sofie, that covers her private parts, and got to add some freckles just for fun.

I have to say, I'm extremely happy with the way Sofie turned out, especially with the green and yellows pop with her white skin.

I gave her also a little bit of poisonous muck dripping from her hands, since sea slugs are quite poisonous.

And yes, Sofie is a shortstack, because I couldn't help myself.

Bio:

Born in the carbonated waters of Carbolina Ocean, Sofie Makala was spawned into the Makala family of Nudibranch.

Originally nomadic, the Makala family would travel the ocean and even on land, hunting for unique and exotic foodstuffs and animals to make into new food dishes.

What makes the Makala family unique from other sea slugs is their stretchy bodies.

Being able to move their bodies and limbs in such crazy ways allowed them to hunt an impressive range of animals.

These animals would be turned into delicious recipes the Makalas would share amongst themselves and other sea slugs.

But after a long while of travel, the Makalas eventually wanted to settle down and start a family.

Sofie’s father would pitch the idea of opening up a combo restaurant and goods supply.

It’d be a great way to not only make money, but to help spread the name of Makala around the world.

Shortly after that, Makala Goods n’ Grillers was opened to the public of Soda Pop Bay, and it became a smash hit.

It was only natural that Sofie would grow up helping out her family at their business.

She loved both cooking, and getting the chance to go on business trips around the globe to find, hunt, or buy new ingredients.

One day on a trip to a large northern cove, Sofie found a strange underwater berry pulsating with juice.

Normally, the Makala have a soft rule of “not eating the merchandise until you get home” but the temptation was too strong, and Sofie ate the berry whole.

To Sofie, it was the most delicious thing she had ever eaten, with a flavor that was indescribable.

Luckily, Sofie found a few more of those “juicy berries” and picked a bushel to take back home.

Later that night, when Sofie woke up, she was covered in thick pink, highly poisonous slime.

It was so toxic that the slime was acidic, melting away in Sofie’s room.

Screaming for help, it took all of Sofie’s family to dig her out of the muck pile.

The Makalas did their best to dig Sofie out, only to make the horrific discovery that Sofie was a part of the nasty muck.

It took some readjusting, but with focus, Sofie was able to pull herself back into a solid state.

This was shocking and confusing to Papa and Mama Makala, but they were just happy that their daughter wasn’t digested by her own mucus.

While cleaning up the mess, Sofie’s family members had absorbed some of the sludge.

One would think that they’d all get poisoned, but strangely enough, their bodies became immune to it.

Work had continued like normal for the rest of the Makala family.

For the most part, Sofie wasn’t showing any negative side effects, other than smelling like the juice of the strange berries.

But one day that changed when they were visited by a stranger belonging to the Oceania Order.

They explained to the Makalas that those “juicy berries” were called “Toxico Ocean Berries”, incredibly poisonous berries that normally kill anyone that eats them.

Yet somehow, all the Makala family survived, despite the berry’s toxicity being too much for most sea slugs.

The family was required to get tested on their toxicity level, and to get some “training” on controlling their strange newer poison manipulation powers.

As they could clearly see, out of all the Makalas, Sofie’s body had the most extreme effects to the berries.

Her body could turn completely into toxic goop.

It was noted that Sofie had a greater control over her toxins.

Such as turning the toxin into other appendages like arms or tentacles.

As well as absorbing any other hazardous, toxic substances like a sponge.

Plus, her naturally stretchy body seemingly became more rubbery and could stretch further beyond her normal limits.

Not to mention, every single part of Sofie’s body was now able to stretch.

The other Makalas were discharged with clean bills of health, but Sofie would have to stay for at least one more day for a specialist to come in.

Sofie would meet with an old sea snail named Gustavo Russo, a man with similar abilities as Sofie.

Gustavo was a “Toxin Master” and he was looking for a pupil to train in his strange and deadly ways of combat.

At first, Sofie was completely uninterested in becoming some “toxic avenger”, until Gustavo sweetened the deal.

Gustavo had lived for a very long time and traveled to many places in the world.

He, too, was a chef in his younger years, and made notes of the locations where he found amazing ingredients and truly exotic animals.

All Sofie had to do, was just meet with Gustavo for 3 hours every other day, and he’d hand out some info.

She begrudgingly agreed, thinking that “this is going to be a total drag” in her mind.

However, the two warmed up to each other rather quickly, as Gustavo was very wise despite how crotchety he looked.

This became the “new normal” for Sofie, but she couldn’t complain too much.

She was getting to find new and interesting ways to test out her powers and apply them during some “family hunts” for fresh meat.

As well as Gustavo handing out some prime locations for the Makalas to investigate for gathering more resources for the family business.

It was a win/win for Sofie, and as long as she could keep helping out her family, that’s all she cared about.

But, becoming friends with Gustavo was a nice bonus too.

Personality:

Living around and inside the ocean all of her life, Sofie has developed a rather relaxed lifestyle.

A perfect day for Sofie includes cooking, eating, lounging, and sleeping.

This, in a sense, made others think that Sofie can be seen as lazy and uncaring about most things when she isn’t at the family storefront.

But this couldn’t be further from the truth, as regulars at the Makala Goods n’ Grillers see how hard Sofie works during the lunchtime rush hours.

Not to mention, the impressive hauls Sofie gets when out gathering food and ingredients.

Sofie can be a little clever and crafty when she wants to be.

She often thinks outside the box to solve most problems.

This usually applies when she is out on the hunt with her trap making skills.

Sofie operates out of a sense of empathy, a trait that her family instilled at an early age.

She does her utmost to help others when she knows they need a helping hand.

“The ocean is often a frightening place, so us seafolk should try our best to help each other out every once in a while”, she’d often say.

Because of her empathic nature, Sofie is rarely on bad terms with anyone and always decides to make friends with the people she meets.

This friendly personality helps Sofie make connections with people all over the globe, as well as getting some “special discounts” every once in a while.

Not to mention, this also acts as free advertisement, as most of Sofie’s dealers tend to visit Soda Pop Bay just to come to Makala Goods n’ Grillers later on.

While rarely seen or used, Sofie is more than aware of her cute and plump body, so she can use some of her sex appeal to draw in some customers and supply buyers.

Her exotic allure works especially well on “landlubbers” as Sofie knows that it isn’t every day some forest dweller will see a sea slug walking by.

Sofie will pretend not to like the attention, but she secretly loves it.

Powers

Rubbery Body:

A skill within her family bloodline, the Makala sea slugs have the power to stretch their bodies.

And Sofie is no exception.

However, thanks to the mutation of the Toxico Ocean Berry made to her body, Sofie’s stretching far exceeded anything in her family history.

Sofie is able to stretch any part of her body; she can stretch her arms to extend the reach of her punches, stretch her legs to extend the reach of her kicks, and stretch her neck to extend the reach of her headbutt.

In extreme cases, Sofie can stretch her hair too, which often makes an excellent surprise attack on expecting prey.

Her stretching also allows Sofie to reach faraway places, as she can stretch and grab onto something at that location and pull herself there.

This is especially handy for dealing with larger prey during a hunt, as she can use her arms like a snake to bind and constrict.

She can further enhance her attack power by twisting her body parts around each other and spinning.

A favorite move of Sofie’s is her “corkscrew blow” that, when pulled off successfully, deals massive damage.

Defensively, Sofie’s rubbery body makes her completely immune to lightning.

She also cannot be harmed by blunt attacks, including punches, blunt weapons, and even being squished by gigantic opponents.

If struck by blunt projectiles, she can bounce them back toward the place it came from, potentially threatening the one who launched it.

And thanks to her rubbery body, Sofie can travel a bit deeper into the sea due to the ocean pressure effecting her body far less than normal.

Poison Control:

Being a sea slug, Sofie is naturally highly poisonous, and her bright warning colors will keep a much bigger and hungrier sea creature from eating her.

However, thanks to ingesting a Toxico Ocean Berry, the amount of toxicity in Sofie’s body skyrocketed.

The berry had mutated Sofie’s body into a living poison generator.

From making constructs out of poison like tentacles, weapons, or arms.

Her poison can also be hardened for use of toxic armor, or making her stretchy punches and kicks hit that much harder.

Sofie can even turn her entire body into poisonous goop, allowing her to squeeze through almost any small crack or opening.

As well as having control over her toxicity in general.

Ranging from a mild irritant to a strong paralyzing agent, to a deadly and highly corrosive toxin.

She can produce these poisons in both liquid and gaseous states.

As well as manipulating toxic materials outside of her body.

Ranging from biohazardous waste, to droplets of her own toxic sweat, or even the toxins located in the bodies of others.

90% of Sofie’s training and combat is used when she and her family are hunting after big game.

Just a single drop of Sofie’s poison can knock out and/or kill the animal she is hunting.

For harder to get prey, Sofie can set up small puddles of poison like sticky traps.

The poison will absorb through the prey and kill it in seconds or minutes, depending on the poison’s potency.

For some extra sneaky application (and if Sofie is just feeling lazy) the poison Sofie creates emits a sweet smell that entices the prey to try and lick/bite Sofie’s mucus.

And with that method, for the aggressive side, Sofie can cover her body in hardened poison spikes.

This is more helpful for the more aggressive prey that has a tendency to bite or grab.

And to make sure the freshly killed food is still edible, Sofie just absorbs the poison out of the prey back into herself.
