Celia Deathcap

Share

Once upon a time, I used to have an AU involving around Super Mario.

It started with a gender swapped Bowser and when off from there.

I’m not exactly revisiting that idea per se, but I did really have the urge to make a Super Mario OC.

I have recently been playing through Super Mario Bros Wonder and the final DLC expansion for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, both as Toadette mainly.

While in play, my mind was wandering with the idea of making a Toad with a Poison Mushroom cap on their head.

I figured I could play up the creep factor by making them look like a zombie, with poison oozing from their mouth and body.

Eventually I was able to come up with Celia Deathcap over here, and I’m rather pleased with the results.

The hardest part was probably coming up with the color scheme for Celia.

Mainly for one, the Poison Mushroom itself has a rather inconsistent design over the years.

But, for what I could see, it seems the purple head with fuchsia polka dots seemed to be the more recurring design.

I gave Celia sickly green skin to make her look zombie like, with some stitches like tattoos on her legs.

As well as some goth like skimpy clothing that is slightly tattered.

I had forgotten how fun it was to draw and make Mario OCs.

Celia will be one to revisit, as well as just a good excuse to come back to Super Mario in my drawings in the future.

Name: Celia Deathcap.

Age: 27.

Sex: Female.

Species: Toad (Poison Mushroom Cap).

Birthday: November 11th.

Birthplace: Toad Town, Mushroom Kingdom.

Height: 5’ feet (152cm).

Weight: 135 lbs (61kg).

Current Residence: The Darklands, Bowser’s Kingdom.

Bio:

Celia Portabella was born into a family of famous archeologist parents, Archie and Maggie Portabella.

While the Portabella family hails from Toad Town in the Mushroom Kingdom, do to their work, they often would live in their massive camper for months at a time.

At the age of 7, Celia would wander far into the Soda Jungle by herself, foraging for some rare mushrooms.

She would stumble across a strange mushroom with a purple cap, fuchsia polka dots, and what looked like horns on said cap too.

Upon close inspection, Celia noticed that this was an extremely rare fully matured Poison Mushroom, better known as “The Death Cap”.

As Celia tried to grab a sample for her parents to study, she tripped on a tree root and fell face-first into the Death Cap.

It let out a massive amount of sticky spores and instantly poisoned Celia terribly.

Thankfully for Celia, her parents found her rather quickly and had to race her to the nearest hospital.

Celia was in critical condition for several months, fading in and out of consciousness.

The doctors were doing their best to flush the poison out of her body, but it was a nurse that discovered the horror of a large mold spore growing inside of Celia’s cap.

They would try to cut it out multiple times, but each time it grew back and would reach deeper into Celia’s skull.

Eventually the doctors had to stop as not to risk damaging Celia’s brain.

The only thing they could do was increase her medicine doses and hope she’d recover.

It’d be a full year later when Celia would wake up, but when she asked to see herself in the mirror, what she saw frightened her.

Celia’s cap was the same color as the Death Cap, and her skin was now a sickly green with darker green freckles.

Her eyes were yellow with a milky cloudy glazed appearance.

Not to mention, the strange stitched like scars on her legs and arms.

Celia’s parents were overjoyed to see her alive after a year of dread.

The hospital staff wasn’t comfortable discharging Celia in her condition, but Mr and Mrs Portabella were insistent on getting their daughter back.

Things would start to be difficult for Celia.

Her monstrous appearance made it difficult for her to make friends, or to even go out in public.

The other Toads would be weary and treat Celia like a freak.

Not to mention, when Celia’s condition would start acting up, she’d release poison spores and cause Toad Town to go into quarantine several times.

This issue would eventually get the Portabella’s forcefully removed from Toad Town in general, as the Portabellas had to live in their camper.

Celia felt massive guilt over everything that happened to her family.

One night, Celia left a note telling her family she loved them, and vanished into the Soda Jungle, never to be seen again.

For nearly 20 years, Celia became known as “The Death Cap Zombie”, for whenever she tried to settle down somewhere, Celia would be driven out time and time again.

She’d find her way in the Fungi Mines of the Flower Kingdom, as the local Poplins were rather friendly towards Celia.

Things were going smoothly until Celia would end up accidentally getting stuck on one of Bowser’s Airships and flown into the Darklands.

Celia was presented to King Bowser as some type of spy that told The Mario Bros and their crew of the failed invasion plans for the Flower Kingdom in advance.

As Celia thought it was all over, Bowser was willing to let her go, but, at the same time, offered her a place to say.

The Koopa Troop had looked into the “Zombie Toad” over the years and knew about how hard Celia had it.

While Celia liked it in the Flower Kingdom, she didn’t really have any friends, as most of the Poplins were too busy in the Fungi Mines to spend time with her.

So, Celia agreed to stay in Bowser’s Castle and became a member of the Koopa Troop.

Kamek and Kammy would retrieve the rest of Celia’s belongings as she would begin her new life under Bowser’s rule.

Personality:

Celia is very shy and reserved, often keeping to herself and not wanting to really bother anyone.

She was like this even before her change, but became even more recluse after said change.

Animals and insects were some of the few things that weren’t afraid of Celia, so she would often spend time out enjoying nature.

However, when Celia is around those that aren’t afraid of her, she does like company despite her shyness.

In the Koopa Troop, Celia has grown close to both Kamek and Kammy Koopa, as they both remind her greatly of her parents.

Both of the elderly Magikoopas tend to show Celia around the castle and having tea in the library together.

And shockingly enough, Celia has hit it off with Bowser himself.

While Bowser normally can’t stand being around Toads, there is just something about Celia that catches his attention.

Plus, Celia’s interesting powerset makes her an interesting training partner.

Powers:

Thanks to the Death Cap mutating Celia’s body, she is ironically more built for fighting, despite her timid nature.

Celia’s large arms and sharp claws make it easy for her to punch or slash at foes.

And the stitched like scars on Celia’s body allows her to stretch some parts of her body.

She favors attacking with stretched arms, as she finds stretching her legs to be awkward.

While she can’t stretch them to an extreme length, it is long enough in order to catch people by surprise.

With more practice and training, Celia can increase the length of her stretching.

But the main combat capabilities for Celia are her natural poison.

Poison can ooze and seep out of any part of her body at a slow or rapid rate.

The easiest place for Celia to produce poison is straight from her mouth, which she can gather and spew it out at a high velocity stream.

This poison is corrosive, and can even melt metals and diamonds.

The poison is also very viscous and sticky, making it almost impossible to get off.

Celia can also release her spores if needed, and they can travel for long distances.

These spores can cause most organic materials to mold and rot away.
