"What is it?" Said Esther.

"It appears to be the relic of some bygone era." Said Roland.

"Does it seem valuable?" Said Melinda.

The trio were staring deep into the blank crystalline object, unaffected by the ice that formed around it. Though cold to the touch, it was not so cold as to chill to the bone. 

Esther stumbled upon the curiosity shortly after the unspeakable jar incident. Not willing to risk more mishaps, the group approached the thing with caution. Today was just not the day for recklessness. 

"There seems to be this odd black strip and console attached to the ice wall nearby the thing," Roland remarked curiously. "I haven't the foggiest idea what any of it does I tell you, but I suggest we-'

"How about this button?" Esther remarked cheerily.

Before anyone could think about rebuking her, it was too late. Only Roland managed to dodge out of the way of the beam of light that engulfed his two party members. And he could only watch as each mermaid was broken down, from scale to skin Clothes evaporating, and hair shredded into neat little squares that absorbed themselves into the blank crystal. 

"Not again." Cried Roland.
