Reviews for "Amber Helix"

It's not bad. But I can not enjoy it since the game freezes as soon as I die!
At least it is an nice idea. But the soundtrack is really annoying over time. If I want to play this kind of game I'll go back to Tohou.

AmberHelix responds:

I have never encountered that bug, and I have never heard anyone else mention it. So I don't think I can replicate it.

This is not the first Shmup/bullet hell i've played. But one of the less enjoyable ones.

Playing the game on Normal is already a pain in the arse. Easy difficulty should be targeted at people that haven't played this kind of game before, not the average player.

My progress is like 0. I played for an hour and didn't make it past Sector 1.
If the games Earlygame is intended to be wasting hours farming XP in Target Practice, only to become somewhat viable for the first stages, your game design fails hard. There is little to no progress this way nor incentive to continue with the game.
Upgrades are so small that they are essentially ineffective and not worth their price, such are the benefits of drones. They are only good for a meager XP bonus, should you be so lucky to find some...
Same goes for shields. It provides no protection whatsoever in the beginning of the game and once you receive your first hit the level is already lost. You get constantly shat on with enemies so once you stop firing your are effectively dead while waiting for the (worthless) shield to recharge. Such a feature would do good for Game+ but right from the start it only feels discouraging.

AmberHelix responds:

On easy i can play through the game without grinding, no need to repeat levels, in fact it gets too easy as I am overpowered after a while. I will not make it easier.

I don't know why this game is getting such lauded reviews...

The ship feels stiff, mechanics are old and boring, and the hitboxes in level 2 and beyond are completely terrible (I have to hit the center of the plus-sign things while dodging, WITH bullet curving?)

A forgettable addition to the genre.

AmberHelix responds:

You can turn off the momentum on bullets by pressing E.

Salvage is described as the chance to find powerups.
I upgraded it to above 100%.
Yet I'm not getting powerups from every enemy.
Looks like I was outright lied to about what that stat does.
Frankly, that trumps the fact that I loved the graphics and gameplay enough to keep playing after a few days. It's rare that a game does that.
0 / 5.

AmberHelix responds:

Salvage increases the chance to get powerups, so 100% means the chance is doubled. So if it was 1% the chance it is now 2%, and if it was 10% it is now 20%.

Right out of the gate the grind is completely unbearable and the benefits of the upgrades are basically unnoticeable.
The levels are so long and the enemies so boring that playing through the first level starts to feel like a chore, and this is before you end up having to replay it many times because the upgrades are all extremely expensive and you basically don't get any experience from a level unless you actually complete it due to the experience loss on death.
