Reviews for "Snowdrift"

Hard to get into the mood. Maybe less text next time.

Thank you so much! I've been craving for something scary, and this happened to fill my appetite xD, I was so scared to sleep in the game that i decided to stay outside the house to avoid seeing things ... though i had to sleep anyway because i became fatigued >. > but very nice! Although many people say that they prefer guidance to what they should do, I felt that this seemed more original, and more real life wise where you can actually feel like you're the main character and that made me love this game more ... It's fun to replay it a while because since you have the freedom to do whatever you want (camp in the woods - bad idea ..., open the door, keep on sleeping, and worry what to do if you're being watched) ... sorry if i spoiled anything, i tried not too, but because of this, it gave me so many ideas on what else i can do, such as should i give in to this, even though i know I'd probably get killed, or should I take the chance to go outside and hunt some rabbits. Overall, this was a very fun game for me personally, and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes scary stories, especially people who enjoy Creepypasta (a site with many scary stories). So thank you very much Placeable for this wonderful game which i spent many hours on ( haha i have no life ... sorry) and sorry for such a long (probably pointless) review, but I'll be ready any time you make a new horror game or such, because to me, it was quite a thrilling experience for me :D now if you excuse me ... I'm gonna give this game a few more extra tries xD heheh can't stop

Placeable responds:

Haha, thanks man really glad you enjoyed the game!

a great horror title to come along in a while

I agree with most of the other posts regarding the directionless gameplay. Although that might be a good idea for other genres of games, a survival/horror game tends to do rather poorly with that kind of focus. Even the early Silent Hill games gave some indication as to where the player was meant to progress to by allowing players access to places they haven't yet explored as they continued to play through the game.

This game had a point, albeit obscure, and a sort of philosophical message when the player finishes the good ending, but only after a great deal of digging into the comments to determine exactly what is supposed to be done. Fortunately, due to boredom, it didn't take long for me to figure out that killing yourself is a prerequisite for the other two endings.

It would have been nice for the player to have a sort of "suicide run" area to explore, which would have killed the player, but allowed them access to certain storyline elements that they wouldn't be able to reach if they just played it safe. For any good horror game, one of the most horrifying areas that can be made are areas that ensure the that the player is in a vulnerable position, gameplay-wise, without making it frustratingly difficult to traverse, like Silent Hill 2's Hotel elevator, where you're required to drop all of your items and weapons before proceeding into a monster-infested area. Forcing the player to retreat into their house every day adds a decent amount of urgency, but at some point, doing that every day becomes a Harvest Moon-esque routine, and players quickly tire of it.

Also, one of the majorly important aspects of any game that depends on story is spelling and grammar. This game would have gotten at least 4/5, but the intro completely killed the mood. Also, any sense of foreboding or mystery associated with the Visitor was completely thrown out the window throughout the encounters. I would highly suggest you team up with a good English-speaking editor or writer.

Overall, I'd rate this game as being pretty meh. Some good ideas going, but there are occasional game-breaking bugs and the implementation could use some work. Looking forward to a sequel with better gameplay, though.

It's strange to read the reviews about glitches and playing without guidance. I got the first knock on the second day and continued to let him in and after speaking to him the final time slept until my stamina was full but once the next day started a lot of sounds (much more than normal) and cries finally some thumps while the time display was gone! took me to the main menu and continued from the start of the sixth day, hah!
Either way wonderful job on the atmosphere sounds, they are spot on. There are some times of blockiness where the creepiness stops, and it seems like a moment of clarity to the character, then a lot more dementia! Really reminds me of amnesia, taking combat out makes the player a lot more comfortable with simply running, and i didn't quite understand the flashes to the meadow. Would of made sense to confront the other entities there. Well kudos on the dynamic event system, it certainly keeps you on your toes.
