Reviews for "Dangerous Dungeons"

Well, I sorta beat it...

Given the difficulty of this game (and therefore the time already spent in it) I'm not too motivated to search for the secret levels. It was kind of fun at first, but soon became VERY meticulous and unforgiving. Checkpoints were a nice touch; However: disabling a 10 point achievement for having 1 checkpoint halfway through a level that takes about 100 tries to complete? Really?

Art and music both get my highest marks. And even though I bitch about the difficulty, it's at least done on purpose. No "fake difficulty" due to poor programming here! Your controls are fluid and consistent. Hitboxes were a little big at times (especially the flame jets), but once you get used to it, it wasn't a big deal.

If you made the secret stages unlock for, say, beating the corresponding boss without checkpoints, that might motivate me to continue playing.

AdventureIslands responds:

Actually you can enter the secret stages at any point of the game, you just need to find where they are, but you receive the hints of their location only after beating stage 30. Then you are free to explore any stage you have beaten, you can just enter the stage, look around, then escape with Esc. Goto stage selection, enter new stage, rince and repeat till you find them.

You are right about the medals though, I will boost the ammount of points they give.

I like it.

Great game. Just having a lot of issues with controlling the height of my jumps. Would be nice to have a low/medium/high jump key for those with keyboards that stick.

Good game, but some designs test time more

Great premise, the music is pretty good too (but I wishes it would keep playing even after you died instead of restarting, it is hard to appreciate as much as is).

I wasn't a fan of the final level to be honest - I felt the same way about the third boss. At least the first couple bosses keep you in the action, but I feel like the last couple have more "filler" where you have to sit and wait for an obstacle to pass. In the very final level you have long easy sections in between the hard parts and these were frankly boring to me. It made me stop trying after a while after I got near the end because I didn't want to keep playing through those parts over and over only to die when I got to the actually challenging part of the level.

AdventureIslands responds:

being my first game ever, I agree some of the design decisions were not the best possible ones. I agree about the two last bosses. I aim to make the sequel more polished.

I prefer the remake, this has some annoying glitches.

Spoiler alert
Secret treasure locations for those who want them:
Grass: level 10, stand by the torch and wait for the saw to pass then backtrack to beginning of level.

Water: can't remember the level umber now but the level title i think is "block bridge". After pushing the block off of the moving piston, continue walking and jump down the hole without water.

Fire: level 25. After grabbing the key, jump up to the rock jutting out of the wall and then jump again
