Reviews for "Redshift"

meh

a lot of good programmers fail because they don't use "WASD" keys to move
other things were pretty good, i suppose
but i'm really not gonna play the whole game moving with my right hand

Completely unoriginal

I wonder if people who gave this game 10's have ever played sidescrolling shooters.

1. This game is ridiculously slow. I spent about 2 hours on it and the speed just doesn't pick up
2. I do the EXACT same thing for every boss, fire away and absorb/reflect the bullets.
3. There are only two shield types, pretty much. Gets old in like 2 minutes.
4. 99% of the pickups are garbage. good luck organizing it.
5. While there's some variety in weaponry, I only had two useful weapons at any time. The rest was either too weak or didn't fire fast/spread enough. Now if you can combine weapons it might be more interesting.
6. There were only 2 types of enemies for like the first 1.5 hours - those that fire regular bullets and those that do nothing. There's more variety later on, but you still end up repeating the same strategy for like 12 waves per level every level.
7. leveling up is boring as hell. One of the fighters gets 1 extra HP per level - wow, you mean I can take like 1% more damage every time I level up?

The good:
decent graphics and responsive controls, but why would you play this game just for that?

DO NOT PLAY

it was fun for the first 5 minutes. after that i kept playing FOR 2 HOURS waiting for it to get good.

once you get a decent shield (an EMP detonator) you just blast through everything.

the weapons are not varied enough, and give us some new enemies instead of the same ones with a new paint job (even the bosses were recycled), also there is no challenge when all of the enemies hang out on the other side of the screen waiting to get shot.

Repetitive

You have three styles of enemies: Kamakazi, Shooter, and boss. That's in. The guns and shields get really redundant, especially after you get a really powerful high rate of fire laser. The shields especially, which the game barfed at me, but since I just took a reflector shield with a 50 durration, I didn't really care, so I had to sort through all these useless things just on the off chance that there's something good in it.

It was okay, but if you've played on level, you've played them all, except for some small changes between bosses.

Cool + Cool = Meh

First off, is this a re-release or an upgrade? I swear to god I played this months ago.

Anyway, I love side-scrolling shooters and I love RPGs, but this combination of elements of the two failed simply because the game is ungodly boring. The presentation is good, the story touches and narration are acceptable for this genre (especially for the 16-bit shooters) but five minutes in, I was fighting the same enemies with a weapon completely indistinguishable from the one I started with.

That is completely unforgivable in a side-scrolling shooter. There's a good concept here, but the entire gameplay would need to be overhauled to make it work.
