At 7/16/08 07:05 PM, Zerok wrote: Structure: I propose a multi-tiered Round Robin.

Yes

First round: Random pairs (or skill match?).

Random

Basically, give a YAY or NAY on the proposed setup.

I like it.

Registration Duration/Cap: How long do we want to keep registration open for? OR do we want, say, a 16 person cap? 20? As many as we can get in X days? I'll initially throw this out: Three Day duration and 16 person cap, whichever comes first.

For the first tourney, I think it would be good to include everyone. Three days sounds good though.

Tournament Duration: How long should it last, and how much leeway do we give for games? We should establish a MAX leeway, so people who know they wont be able to tango for X days will know to avoid registration. I think a week would be a good max, though it's entirely possible that we'd bang it off in a day or two. The week gives people freedom and breathing room. Also, quarter final / semi final extensions can be made, unless you'd prefer a stricter setup.

A round a day, however, if one player can't make a certain day, the two players should play the day before, or the day after. If they play the day after though, then they will play the next round the same day.

Timer clocks: Yes/No ---> if yes, how long?

I'd say no just because I take a little longer than most ;P, but if yes, maybe an hour?

Black or White: Random, or preassigned, or swapping, or what?

Random or first come first served. Also, I think the winner in tree A (the one who never lost) should get the option, unless he'll have to get beaten twice.

Timeouts: If someone has a computer mishap, is it a auto-loss? Do we take a screenie of the board/email move history and recreate the game?

That sounds like the best plan.

Draws: Is a draw a rematch? Or will a forced stalemate (i.e. the losing player manages to trick the other into a draw) count as a WIN (I personally like this idea)?

Rematch, I disliked getting tricked ;P

Audience: Do we disallow audience hints? Agree upon NO AUDIENCE or MUTED AUDIENCE or UP TO THE PLAYERS?

Muted audience, no comments from the peanut gallery.

Two cents thrown in. ;P

Where do you guys play?

As in the website.

I'm willing to play someone for a few games, if someone would like to.

These self-reliant stats are kind of silly. I'll ask people to refrain from posting them constantly, or to keep them in their sigs. It can be hard to keep track and keep them up to date so I'd suggest to forget them altogether or only played rated games on the sites.

RedHotPawn.com looks pretty sweet. It's not LIVE, and this can have its advantages and disadvantages.

For timezone people, this may be a very good option.
For tournaments, this may be acceptable if arrangements cannot be made for deadlines, etc.

It's also kinda cool, being able to have multiple games at once.

I'd recommend you nab an account, I called mine just Zerok because I'll probably use it recreationally as well as for this club if need be.

I still believe that chesscorner.net would be an easier place to hold a tourney.

You should definitely check it out.

The tourney style there is much different than Round Robin, but that certainly doesn't mean we can't use this. You do have to have at least 1 game completed on that account to Join, five to create. I'll get crackin' on playing games to get the 5 status.

Now it also says you can only have 4 players in a tourney but I clicked on Current ones and it showed like, an 11 player tourney. That could be a subscriber thing.

ALSO it says all games are activated at once... this may be too much stimuli for people here... we'll see.

Why can't we just use POGO?

We can make our own tournament sheet and let people know who they have to play.

We don't need to "make" a tournament on a website.

I didn't, I just said I won once and I lost twice.

I will rephrase what I said. I mean I don't remember that you win. That's it. So, another game?

I will recap the game that we had:

1st game: W for youngblood26 (because you resigned)
2nd game: W for youngblood26 again (checkmate)
3rd game: W for youngblood26 (checkmate, again)

Just go to any profile by clicking a name, then find "view public games" or thereabouts to see all games the person is playing.

Dang, I haven't been very active in this club so far. So I'll ask a question. Which website (pogo or yahoo!) do people like better? (When I tried to use Pogo, it was really slow and I just ended up giving up on it)

Also, my name is jew193 for both. I forgot to put NG, but whatever. At least it's the same as it is here.

Also, Zerok, why don't you just lock the old club?

It's too old.

I like the slow pace of RHP very much, to my surprise.
I have 4 open slots for invites, so pile 'em on if you please.
