Well that pretty much rules out kids I'm guessing. It all goes down to personal opinion, but if it isn't important to what you're doing, Id suggest giving people the option of what media they want to use.

Maybe I should give the specifics of the classes first. One is a composition class, where i teach them how to set up a page or picture better. The other is an alternate drawing media class, where we draw with stuff other than just the typical items such as pencils and charcoal. The demographic would be teens and adults.

I can definitely allow what ever mediums they want in the composition class, but the other one is more me forcing them to use something different.

Art classes.... Something I've always wanted to take. The problem is, I don't even know if there are some around my town.

One of my favorite things was something that wasn't that much art related. I had a teacher who just kind of chatted with us. Of course it was during out lab time, but he would bring some of the most interesting conversations too. We spent hours discussing science, science fiction, H.P. Lovecraft, sometimes art related topics. I later found out he did tons of art for the Call of Cthulhu D20 System RPG...
But even though he was a fun loving short guy, he was serious about art and we always got tons of work done. I guess it was all about setting up a creative atmosphere.

I'm no help here. The only "formal" art training I'll had is when Kinsei yells at me. (Along with others but Kinsei yells like a teacher)

I dont know how helpfull this will be to you ornery; but the biggest likes/dislikes for me were the following:
I had one teacher that was really open; he was hardly ever negative but always picked out the good parts of your idea and then helped you find ways to use/express that. He was always really helpful; but made sure you were the one that made the art. I had another teacher that would force you to use some weird technique or something, forcing you in such a direction that it wasnt actually your art rather than hers.
Anyways: Good luck, and if you think of any cool excercises be sure to share them here.

Hello fellow NG artists!

I've liked drawing my whole life. This summer, however, I decided to start drawing lifelike portraits. I've never had a single class on how to draw portraits so I've spent quite an amount of time practicing on my own.

Do any of you know any books or tutorials that might help me get better at drawing portraits? It'd be much appreciated.

Is anyone else experiencing a glitch with images in the Art Portal?

it seems to only pop up when I no filters on. If I turn on any of the filters it goes away.
I can't click them, can't highlight them and I first started to notice it about a day and a half ago, but at that time it was only one or two pictures, now its almost the entire first page.

I'm just curious if anyone else is getting this. I mean it could just be my computer acting like the piece of crap it is

happened to me earlier when bahamut was drunk on AIM and I searched for dragon porns to link to him

I experienced numerous glitches with the portal. For example, adult ratedmaterial showing up out of nowhere. Even if the adult material is disabled.

Yeah, take it as a good sign that they're working on stuff... breaking in the process, but still working on it :D

yeah it started to happen around midnight *UK time*... we were in a stickam chatroom and i brought it up when i saw the first pixel picture... it only happens if you do not have a filter on *so you have Everyone, teen, mature and adult rated chosen* it seems to be a bug where a random number of "pixel" copies of the pictures name are made before the picture itself and show up as either nothing, or little white pixels... it seems this bug is different for everyone.... but everyone seems to have some sort of problem...

Im pritty sure some of the admins know about it now...

there are no image files inside of the links... they are blank copies of the picture posted before them...

somewhere along the lines while the author is uploading the picture file the copies are made.... as soon as the picture they want to show is on the portal.... so are the rest...

these are the most recent "blank" pictures... as you can see.... some people manage to get more then others for some reason... also... if the ORGINAL picture is deleted... the "blank" picture/s stays there... i was trying to look for any clues as to why some people get more then others.... but im pritty sure it has something to do when they upload it rather then what they type...

At least I know what that is now. I just chalked it up to everyday strangeness.

Hello everyone. Are you all enjoying your summer? I know I sure am. I have just gotten the news that I am accepted into Koldings School of graphic design (that means Im hot shit now ;). That has been my dream for 5 years so I am overly excited about that. But I could not have done if without the feedback, help, motivation and inspiration I have gotten from you guys (and girls) so I just wanted to say thanks for the good times. Now I HAVE to get me a new computer. So soon I will be back and ready to show all the cool new stuff I am learning :D

Yeah I know they are going to put me through alot of tedious lessions (wax on, wax of, wax on, wax of9 but really it is not so much the school I am excited about as it is the chance to surround myself with creative and dedicated people, pretty much like the art forum only out there in the real world. I think I am going to have a great time :)
