Anyhoo, heres a Surrealism project for my digital paint class, in low quality of course, my DA will have a better version..
We were required to take something extraordinary and make it seem less than special, or vice versa.. I took the milky way galaxy and put it into a vending machine! Reminds me of Men In Black...
Photoshop cs2
intuos3 tablet
3 hours.

about 3 hours, strictly photoshop and a tablet..
I loooooove this one (for some reason).
My one problem with it is that the body looks too flat compared to the neck. Do that "bulge" thing a little bit on it and it is a win!
The one with the milky way galaxies is sweet!
but the fingers don 't look like thet would actually meet. Make them slope a little more?
I like all ye stuff, Awesome!
love your artwork man! keep it up.
Thanks guys! I appreciate it!

What technique do you use to shade like that?

Yes indeedy! I will definitely improve it before this COW ends, i think your wise words will help quite a bit!
As for my shading tactics, I use photoshop cs2, and I:
-Lay down solid color
-add shading on the same layer
-add highlights
-use a more opaque brush with the original color, around 20 -30 percent to blend in
-touch it up with the smudge tool
Seems to work relatively well in my last 2 COW submissions, Im still learning though!

glad i could help :)

nice it works really well, i tend to do shadings on different layers and use the soften tool to blend colors in, and sometimes the smudge tool.
oh and i do the shadings with a slightly darker colour with a 4-5 pixel brush at 20% opacity, blend in, and keep shading, then i do a second shading with an even darker color at 40-50% opacity and 2-3 px.
highlights are pretty much the same
then i tend to do what comes to me, burning, sharpening, softening, blurring etc etc... whatever i think looks best :)
anyway keep the good stuff coming! your a really good artist
Improved Hollix, thanks for the advice on it Tom! :)

Nice man, this CoW is turning out great for everyone!
I still feel like the sucked up part of the planet should continue all the way to the left, not break off at his hand.
It's still great though, nice job.

That's really good, do you want advice on it?
If so: I only have two things you can really improve on; make the guy more smiley, he looks like he should be smiling, and made the magma cracks glow more, give him a little reddish aura.
Anyway, nice drawing, looking forward to the finished one.

thanks so much! i will work on that, see how it looks :)
COW 20 - Cloud Creator, finished product.. I didnt go with the smiley thing PandaMime, since i thought it would be a little too cartoony, but I did take your advice on the cracks, and i must say, you were very correct! Thanks much :)

That's okay! It looks very good as it is!

It looks much more like lava now, kudos on another nice CoW
a little messing around to relax, quick sketchie.
heres another surrealism picture, saying that stonehenge was not so spectacular :)
nice Saurus :DD
really you know i like your stuff...how long does it take you usually to draw something?
thanks :)
Well it depends, lately i have been spending far more time on the COW entries, the past 3 have been at least 8 hour pieces each. The initial sketching stage however, takes me about 10 - 15 minutes. I should really spend even MORE time on them, but i have too much classwork going on and havent really had the time :/
POST MOAR ART!
Aren't you on vacation right now (if not, hahahahahahaha).
You should draw more.
haha very true Panda, I am on vacation, sadly that means i am working my ass off at my part time job so i have funds for college. :/ Fear not though, i will be back in action starting tomorrow night, maybe I will do this weeks COW
Just getting back into the swing of things, some practice with new brushes, little sketching, foolin around etc. Kinda Grungy.

Nice, I really like that style of art.
Maybe a different brush for the blood though?
Anyway, good pic =)
