Hmm, well the BBS search does let you view an authors profile, but provided that they don't have any NG flash or posts... then yes, actually you SHOULD be able to view their profle now. :D

You can add people by all sign-up names, no matter if they got a profile or not!
So if you want to see if someone got a name already, or who that person is, you just put the person in your contacts list!!! =D

Go into your grounds gold, click on the big text saying "INBOX", then you got everything there.
To write to someone, click "Compose" (button at the right side), then just enter the correct username of the person you want to send the message to.

A couple suggestions that I hope haven't been posted yet:
Leave the e-mail adresses in the profiles
Suppose the user I want to contact barely logs into NG anymore, and the only way I can contact him is through his/her e-mail adress! I also find this handy whenever I want to add someone to MSN or Gtalk.
Enable attachments
Just like the BBS, I think you should be able to send pictures in your private messages.
