Welcome, gentiles, to the...
QUEST FOR THE CROWN CONTEST
I have been creating music on this website for a long time, and I have grown weary of the constant struggles that this website gives me. I am stepping off the battlefield, and I have come to the realization that it is time to crown a king or queen... a KING/QUEEN OF CLASSICAL MUSIC!
I have seen genius minds on Newgrounds, men and women who are so strongly dedicated to producing music which sparks intuitive imagination, that I find it hard to believe that there is yet a contest that tests the limit of their talents. I seek to finally close the lid on the long lived question, "Who is the best classical composer?"
You do not need to know how to write music, nor do you need to know how to read music. All I want from you is to produce an original song that dictates the best you have to offer. I will coordinate this contest myself, and will judge the music based on emotional and quality performance. If you believe that you are capable of defeating all the other self-proclaimed 'Kings/Queens of Newgrounds,' then you are the right person to join this contest!
Just be sure you understand the following...
1) The Audio Forum Rules
2) The music that will most likely be accepted is categorized in the classical, orchestral, neo-orchestral, cinematic/film, horror, European medieval, baroque, or choral category of music. I will provide a recommended list of instruments later.
3) Vocals are allowed. However, if you are a man and you try to sing soprano like they did in the old days of classical music, be sure to turn the volume of the recording to 0%
4) Copies of other works, whether copyrighted or not, are STRICTLY FORBIDDEN. If I hear the Star Wars or Nightmare Before Christmas theme, I will personally inform John Williams and Danny Elfman of your treachery.
5) "Lord of the Rings Music" is allowed as long as it sounds nothing like The Lord of the Rings.
6) Your submission must be completely original, and I prefer that it reflects your character as a musician. I will pay close attention to detail and your own trademark arrangements that you incorporate into the music.
If you plan on submitting your famous piano solo, or any instrument solo, keep in mind that my judgement will favor you more if your music contains an orchestral arrangement of instruments. Brass, strings, choir, and percussion are basic necessities to succeed in this contest, but your submission will be your own design -- so don't let me influence your instrument selection. Everything is all up to you.
I will not reject any submission unless it violates the BBS rules, or copyright laws. So, you can choose to submit whatever you want, but keep in mind that this is a contest to crown the king/queen of classical music.
You must submit BEFORE November 1st, 12:00 am
If you wish to complain about the deadline, then my vassal Lord Samulis Augustus will address your petitions. But not really.
(Must have a paypal account)
FIRST PLACE: A coronation for the King/Queen of classical music and a secret prize
SECOND PLACE: A day in the stocks and $20
THIRD PLACE: An opportunity to hang out with your friends on the gallows and $10
FOURTH PLACE: A chance to contract leprosy, and a foreboding reminder to not get fourth place
I will be judging each submission that is submitted to this contest, and each submission will be placed on a 'top song list.' The three best submissions will receive their just rewards, and all other submissions will be honorably mentioned. The results of the judging will be posted on November 4th.
But Seriously, this thread is strictly for submissions so I can easily tally the songs. Please post any questions or comments in the Discussion Thread
Before I forget to mention this golden rule...
You must create a song specifically for this contest. That means you cannot submit a song to this contest that you already created for Newgrounds in the past.
Your song must be original, and specially designed for this contest. I love you and your songs.
Here's my submission to Quest for the Crown Contest. Enjoy it. Just me on guitar, no other instruments.
Seems like a rather quick deadline, but count me in.
must have paypal
aww, I stuck to webmoney... whatever, I join this damn contest for fun, not money...
I'm so taking part in this one !
Deadline is kinda short, if you ask me, but i guess it's part of the fun !
wait, Two Steps FromHeaven is OUT already? Fuck me, must get it soon.
Well, in that case...
THE DEADLINE IS NOW NOVEMBER 7TH @ 23:59.99
or in peasant terms, 11:59 pm Newgrounds time (Eastern Standard Time I believe?), so be sure to mark your calenders. Do not procrastinate! You have a throne to claim!
I am being lenient with the time, so do not persuade me further please. You will not win this contest through charisma alone, so give it everything you've got! There are great rewards ahead for the worthy victor!
You must hurry... before the neglected and ignored Prince Rupert steals the crown for himself:
This is a pretty freeform/sandbox contest, the rewards are out of this world, and now you all have extended time. I believe all of you will have a good chance at winning this contest, and I am quite eager to see what great music will be brought forth.
I'm trying to make this contest unique, but I am failing miserably lol. Good luck to thee, CHAMPIONS!
Rapefunk is going to win don't even bother other competitors u big losers heh
Fuh evry king a throne, fuh every throne some concubine booty...
I'd like to stick my foot in the door here :3
I am dem0lecule! I have to use alt because I got tempo banned from some stupid flame wars on General.
Here is my entry...
I decided to split up what I was working on into multiple projects. I might be changing my submission later on, but here is the link for what I'm entering now:
It's very minimal and I have a more cinematic track that I'm working on that you might like a little more.
Oh wow I only just found out about this contest! My internet has been down for a few days while it was running so I almost missed it! good thing the deadline was extended! Anyway, I made what I think is my best orchestral yet over the weekend that would probably fit into the cinematic/film category.
I don't have time to finish it, but this sounds kinda cool already I think. I will now become a hermit for the next week or so so I won't fail in all of my schools :(
Crap boys, you only have two days left. Are you all getting tired? Do you all need more baby food or pacifiers?
JUMP ON IT.
A miniature cinematic orchestral suite. >MADE FOR THE QUEST FOR THE CROWN CONTEST<
Here is my submission. If you guys check out the description I put a heavy-set chunk compositional and conceptual notes. There's a lot of stuff going on compositionally and conceptually. I wanted to do some sort of cinematic orchestral piece, with some time-period elements as well. Hope you guys like it!
Here's a bonus from me (just for fun!):
If it interests anyone, all of this is fully scored and notated. You can watch the video of it playing in Sibelius or FL Studio if you wish. I'll even post a download link for the sheet music of the full orchestral if you guys want it:
Sibelius playback video (Notation):
FL Studio 10 playback video (DAW):
Download the .PDF of the full orchestral score here:
BOOSH.Best of luck to everyone!
After a lot of procrastination and lack of inspiration here is my submission!
Well here i go in the middle of the sharks around here xD
Good luck everyone!
No mather how good you are sometime, somewhere, somehow...
What could be a more fitting submission than a majestic overture dedicated to the Crown itself? Hope you all enjoy!
And here's the score for anyone interested - notated in more or less baroque manner if you're wondering about the lack of detail:
Finished! Don't ask me how. Miracles happen I guess. Now for some much-needed sleep.
Good luck to everyone, the music submitted so far is really really good.
