Reviews for "2-Bit Explorer"

Remids me of Minit

New Review: After some sleep and thinking about this game, I've finally finished al the endings. The bell has tolled, the bad moon rose, I've served all the gods, slayed all the gods, and ventured into the twilight! Hehe. I loved this experience. I've been at it for hours, and it's an incredible ride. I think your strength is in giving your puzzles depth. In the library statues puzzle, I remember thinking "how do i know what order the statues go in?" and being rewarded for putting them in either forward or backwards is a really good way to remove that uncertainty.

I also loved scraping for secret passages, and always felt excited to see another new one, to uncover a shortcut. And thank you so much for the Black Ebon hint! It sure is easy to get lost in a labyrinth xD I personally felt that the eyes pointing to secret passages made it a bit too obvious. Getting the Helm of vision and being able to see everything felt like a reward for all my exploration! I understand you want your game to be more accessible though, so I'm glad I got to play the OG version XD

I think good puzzles need a delicate balance, you want things to be tricky, but not impossible. And you want the players to work hard and feel accomplished when they solve a puzzle! There are a lot of areas here that are strong in that, and it's really exciting to see such innovative puzzle games from an independent developer! I adore the combat style and upgrades to the way fights work. The Argos fight was REALLY tricky but enjoyable. It feels like I'm playing a rhythm game, and I really like playing rhythm games haha. And seeing Frank's name on the Journals!!! Wow!! That's so interesting. I can hope only that our future ends up better than the masked man's did.

Excellent work. I love seeing how you've improved from 1-Bit Explorer and I look forward to what you're up to in the future!

Old Review:
My eyes are bloodshot I'll come back to this and give you a real review tomorrow. 4.5 stars, fantastic work, very tricky, love the combat love the puzzles. Definitely needs floor clues for the block pushing puzzle, and a better tell for falling through the dark maze floor, as others have said. I've got hearing problems so I didn't realise there was a ticking noise! I think an audio cue like "you hear a timer counting down" or even "the floor beneath your feet seems weak" would work without ruining the surprise. Or even putting the hint in Journal 7, like "I hope there are no more dark mazes!" or such. I'm VERY tired. If you make another game in English I'd be happy to proofread for you if you're interested! The grammar issues are tiny, not a big deal to me, but I love your work and I'd be happy to contribute :)

Fuller review after I get some sleep ;-; I've been working on this for DAYS!

(Also... how much money do I have to give you for you to tell me where all 4 Ebon Ores are... pls... I only have 3 and i'm suffering... )

Fiddleling responds:

Hello my friend! Thanks for the suggestions! I will be releasing a patch soon to fix some stuff and give additional hints for the game.
For the ores, here are some tips:
- Look into the West Garden building
- Under the trapdoors, follow the music to a statue puzzle
- Inside a building in the Forgotten City, make sure to pull all levers
- On the West Garden, make sure to blow on the fans

Best of luck!

It's a nice game where you explore and collect items... But... There are some problems... Some items don't have an apparent use, like the music box, or the coins for example...

To begin with, it should be stated also in the description (In case the player forgets) what the controls are (Arrows to move, Z to use an item, interact with an NPC or item, and X to see your inventary), you can find books, but they are more story telling, they don't really give a hint of what to do.

Many of the parts I passed were out of test and error, for example, the part where you fall because the ground breaks beneath you, you have to write it down or memorize where you fell if you want to avoid falling over and over.

As for the eye part with four paths, the same, there are no hints on how to get out (For those who are stuck there, the order is Down, Left, Down) Also, watch for the walls in interiors, because there are hidden paths in some of them (I discovered not too long ago)

And after you advance to where the eye with the music note is and use the bell there, the game ends automatically.

I don't know what else to do besides that... Still, it has interesting things...

It also calls my attention that there is a health meter in the upper part represented in hearts... Why, if there are no enemies? Is it for a boss or something? Oh yes, I almost forgot, pressing a number allows you to use the corresponding item... What calls my attention is that the torch is item 5... What is item 4, then? Well, all I have to say, based on my experience. Nothing against the creator, I think it was well done and has interesting things in it, but also things missing.

And I realized that this comment looks more like a walkthrough than a comment XD And it's extremely long, possibly the longest comment I've ever posted, so much so that most of you will probably not read it till the end, but if by any chance you did, I'll just say one thing... Thank you... As for the creator... Nicely done, you certainly put effort on it.

Enjoying the game so far, but keep getting stuck!!

pretty neat little game, oddly spooky at times.
kinda cryptic and there are a few puzzles that don't have any kind of hint and you just have to brute force but i still found in enjoyable.
i went through it a few times to get some the the different endings.
the little bits of lore you can find are pretty interesting and i like how picking a patron changes certain items depending on the god you choose.

if you're having trouble finding the 4th and 6th items. on the path to the hammer (the first set of stairs to the right of the main entrance to the labyrinth) there's a locked door you can open with a small key that leads to a room with a small chest, there's a hidden path in that room that leads to one of the items. after you get that item you're gonna wanna look around the whole map.

if you're having trouble finding the underground city. go into the dark maze room and wait about 30 seconds.

kinda annoying how you have to do the combat tutorial before you it will let you fight the bosses but you could probably just make a save right after the tutorial but before fighting any of the bosses so you don't need to redo it every run.

looked everywhere but couldn't figure out how to get the last valac shard. if i stand near the bottom edge of west garden i can see a fan block but i can't figure out how to get to it.

i'm also not really sure what's the point of giving the music box to the little girl.

if you want to go for all the endings i'd recommend making a save after you've found all the items but before you've picked a patron. probably pretty obvious but i didn't think of it until writing this review and it would've saved me a lot of time lol.

sorry if this was a little unorganized or ramble-y. i don't really leave reviews much and have some trouble organizing my thoughts sometimes
