Reviews for "Proxy"

I win in the first try! Maybe i am lucky?

I'm sorry, but... I want to like this game. Every part of me really wants to like this game, but no matter how hard I try... I can't

The concept presented has always been a personal favorite of mine, as cliche as it is. The thought of a being playing mind games with you and having to pick up on subtle clues is something I've loved as long as I can remember... however, this is a big letdown for me to the point I had to think about what had just happened.

Waiting for the actual "game" is excruciatingly long threw a wall of almost completely unneeded text that I went through with a fine toothed comb in fear of missing anything. When the time came to actually choose the killer, I thought to myself: "They can't possibly be this obvious," then promptly chose the wrong person.

I really wish this would have been executed better, but in the end it is a tedious, anticlimactic, sub-par mystery with an old (but still good) concept. I'm giving this half a star only for the fact that if more time had been spent with game-play, interaction, actual puzzles, and a bit more development of the villain this could have easily been a very good game. I'm disappointed, however I'm hoping that you will continue to improve, as well as maybe even revisit this concept. You should use this as a spring-board to guide you into future games and a better quality creation.

I actually guessed it right who Proxy is, ugh and I shot the wrong person .-. It was like so obvious but then I started to doubt it and ughh I was right .-. the hints were quite obvious XD

Great game BTW! <3

I really appreciate it man, thanks a lot !

Great game man! I got stuck in the final like the others but I managed to finish Best Ending today on the first shot. Keep up the good work.

THANK YOU !

This was... -really bad.
I had more than enough problems with this game to justify a complete zero review, not even beginning to mention the poor execution of the premise, and game-breaking issue of there only being 2 endings when there needed to be 3 programmed (I won't explain why, as it may spoil the - albeit bad - plot for those who haven't played it, but it's probably what led to the freezing glitch for so many.). I played through and won my first time (-in which the game didn't outright freeze on me, despite making the "right" choice.), but played several times anyway - mostly to try for different endings, but part out of boredom, morbid curiosity or maybe even hope that the game couldn't dissapoint me further.

While I suspect that English wasn't the creator's first language, more effort could have definately been made to atleast check the game's grammar - and while not an issue, I felt it was definately the first thing to pull me away from any sense of immersion I had.

The second thing that really bothered me is that the clues are just too glaring. It didn't make a puzzle at all. -especially when there's only one chance to take a choice. Hell, they were obvious to an extent where I almost got it wrong during the first playthrough solely based on my own skepticism that the game would be a little less obvious. I atleast expected a game that was trying to play mind-games with me to actually play mind-games with me, but that was far from what I got.

Next off, I can't even begin to describe how boring it was sitting around waiting to make a move. Even taking into account that this game is essentially a short visual novel, the game was simply just far too void of choice or action to warrant having to sit through it multiple times, even on fast-forward. Proxy's dialogue was especially far too drawn out, making me fast-forward it even on my first playthrough (As waiting for it to pass, even after I'd read it, was tedious.), which made me completely miss other character's dialogue. Even the one thing that you could control - the fast-forward feature - was unresponsive, and that really bothered me. I see no reason why this game couldn't have been done solely with skippable dialogue boxes, as opposed to waiting for it, or missing parts due to fast-forwarding.

Going back to the choice - and partly the plot - there was absoloutely no reason for you to have to wait until the end to make a choice, which I felt was a gaping plot flaw, especially considering the "best" outcome, and the player's character's actions prior. There was even a part of me who felt that a choice may have been cut from the final, as a potentially interesting point brought up towards the end never even gets a chance to be explored, and there is a missing choice to suspect one of the people in the elevator (Granted, it is yourself, but the point brought up doesn't rule you out.).

Focusing now on the plot, I can't even choose a start for picking at the holes and blandness of it all. The "mystery supernatural killer" and "dying suspects" thing is incredibly cliched at this point, to a extent where even the premise of it being in an elevator is a cliche in a cliche. -and then there's Proxy, who only shows up once in the entire game in his true form, and barely actually says a thing, despite being the game's antagonist. On top of that, even as an antagonist, he's incredibly tame, barely making sense for someone so intent on playing with people, not even giving them a chance to act on their suspicions before he kills another, despite - again - explaining that he's there to mess with them. I could honestly go on, picking at plot-flaws and problems with the game's only choice, but any other things I could say would cause spoilers, and despite my hesitance to disregard that to ram my point home further, I still respect that some people may find this game interesting.

As for the graphics and sound, they were so bland, generic, and downright basic, I honestly wondered if I'd seen or heard them before - even going as far to believe that some of it may have been plagarised from other games, or just straight up copied from a game-making tutorial of sorts. -and while I understand that this was a test subject for you to handle unity, I feel this game could have easily been made in flash, not even beginning to mention that it could have been optimized far better (See: Fast-forward function being unresponsive.). I think special mention goes to what bothered me most - given that the first time I sped-up the game, the music speeding up with it genuinely hurt my ears...

I honestly can't say I'd reccomend this to anyone, and I feel that way too little effort was put into this for it to be taken seriously as a Daily 3rd place winner. To sum up - Proxy is a "game" about a sub-par, obvious villain with a bothersome, sometimes (-and somehow) buggy (lack of) gameplay, and there was more than enough chance for this to be better than it actually was.

There were glimmers of hope for this, I admit, but they were far too hastily shot down for me consider merit on that alone.
While I am aware that for this review, I was especially harsh, I hope your future projects are better than this one...

Sonoshee responds:

I didn't read sorry, I know it's sarcastic, so I usually ignore reviews that start with the same introduction as yours.
Thanks though for putting the time to write this long useless wall of text.
