Reviews for "Blake Strongflank Escapes"

after spending a beating it and finding it mediocre the first time i came back planning to kill an hour the game's speedrun mode enticed me to take on the challenge and now on the fourth try i lowered my time to about 630 seconds. this feature (and all the others) are fantastic additions to this game (i may have just not noticed them the first time) the game is a magnificent time waster.

now onto the gripes. i'm honestly just going to reiterate what was probably spoken or promised earlier. the mute button is a must, the music can be amazing but it will never be better than my favorite band lol. the wall/ air jumping should be explained in-game rather than in the summary preferably in some sort of text during the levels that need it. the difficulty spike from 508 to 509 is ridiculous and 509 is wayyy harder than 510. perhaps reorder them? make 509 easier? also i sincerely hope hardcore mode isn't the new hard mode. while it is a welcome addition i would much prefer a level pack that added levels as hard as 509 and 510.

oh and i just noticed that if you stay at the opening screen long enough the bg music will start to overlap itself, but that's a minor bug lol

off to beat my last time.

Haha, awesome review!

Glad you got into the speedrun mode, it can be a real blast to try and find quicker and quicker ways to finish the levels.

Gripes are all totally legit; mute, explaination of mechanics and rearranging 509 to its own world of evilness. Hardcore mode is designed to give a "you only live once" play through to see how far you can make it before messing up. The new hardmode will be an extra level pack kind of like the Star Road in Super Mario World.

Noted the music bug too, will fix that when I get a chance.

Keep me up to date with your times!

And of course, thanks for playing :D

Starts getting harder after ten levels. It took me a while to realize that thing that you only need to press left or right to wall jump (took till I read the description in search for clues), but it actually makes the gameplay simpler, even if it's a bit a confusing configuration at first. I like the simple level design, even if I was expecting more simplicity even with the latter levels. For the yellow door, it looks like the character's moving in behind it rather than through it. The ambient soundscape in the background's real nice. Keep it going!

Thanks for the feedback. If you have any ideas of how to make the "you only need to press left and right to wall jump" more obvious that would be awesome. Looking for a way to do it without breaking the forth wall.

All the visuals are pretty simple but maybe a shrink animation on the doors would work while still keeping it simple. Soundscape is all thanks to the great work of Kevin Bryce, look him up on that there google, he's great!

Solid platformer with crisp, clean visuals

Thanks for playing! :D

I gave up on 509, but I gotta say it is a great game. I find that a lot of platform games fail at good controls with timing and too many buttons. You kept it simple and it works perfectly! Your level design as well is very very good. If you applied what you learned from this game and made some cool sprites, animations, and more detailed story you'd have one hell of an awesome game. As is 4/5 just cause the graphics are so simple. Also, I love the music, reminds me of Nine Inch Nails lol.

Thanks for the review and for playing! Simplicity was what I was going for. I've tried making games in the past and got tied up in knots with complexity.

I hear what you say on the sprites and animations but I'm deffo not up to the job. Need to find someone who can lend me their art skills. Want something simple and pixel based.

The music was a huge part of what kept me going on the project. I hooked up with this guy Kevin Bryce and used a few of his tracks for the worlds. He even made a brand new track just for the game. It's the one that runs on the title screen. His music is totally badass, look him on on SoundCloud for even more cool stuff.

I'm trying this the third time now!! And I'm done with myself the third time!!
I'm alwys stuck at 401 I can't stand it!! Already killed a keyboard!!
But I'll come back and beat this game :D
(Sometimes it seems to hard)

RIP keyboard...

Thanks for playing!
