Reviews for "Zelda the Welder"

The concept is OK, but the execution is really terrible.

It's far too talky and I know you were trying to be funny, but honestly, I just want to play the game instead of having to sit through an endless stream of text bubbles. The problem with humour is that it's entirely subjective and I know you probably thought the text was funny, but it got a bit grating, largely because it fell flat for me and I started thinking "I want to play the bloody game! Why won't you let me play the game!?"

The instructions were also an active hindrance, covering up part of the screen.

The lines were also problematic as well, with the game deciding that I'd gone off of them when in fact, I hadn't. This pretty much meant that I couldn't do the grand father clock because after I'd managed to cut the stupid thing open and welded the wires together, I couldn't get the thing at the bottom back together again.

I get that you threw this together in three days, but honestly, you needed to spend more time on it.

It looks pretty well made, it was just too hard.

MonoFlauta responds:

Sorry about that, just keep trying :)
Thanks for the review!

This was a really strange game. At first, I thought I would get the hang of it, but I didn't. What made it difficult is that the instructions themselves popped up at bad times and were blocking part of the game. That way, it was hard to follow through in terms of what was going on. At least you managed to have some good graphics. I'm actually surprised this took such a short time to make. It was also a tad too talky.

I think this may be the first submission I've ever seen that had the word "Zelda" in it and had nothing to do with the video games. At least the sounds and everything else are nice and sync up well. We've truly gotten some unique games this NG game jam. At least other people enjoyed this.

MonoFlauta responds:

Well, yes it was, we couldn't make everything so perfect for it, sorry about it, but we did our best in 3 days.

About the "Zelda" yes, this game is something unique LOL

Thanks for the review!

I like the game but those lines are to small make them a little bit bigger if you you do a Zelda The Welder 2

MonoFlauta responds:

Ha thanks for the advice!

I love the concept of a welding game. I just don't find this well executed.

I am not going to get super nit-picky because the concept is good and I did enjoy it but the frustration level made it not as fun as I thought it would be. I weld in real life so some things about this bug me. Mainly the fact that the welds restart if you move the slightest bit wrong. Once you lay down weld you should be able to pick up where you broke the arc. Also sometimes the "hit area" for the lines is way too small. Also it is very annoying to have the clock going while I am reading or clicking out of the instructions.

I think that if this game were made without this tediousness, and was maybe added some extra touches it would feel more like a welding game than a mouse avoidal game. (like perhaps an acetylene cutting torch with a flame, a motion for striking the arc ect) Overall I liked it though.

MonoFlauta responds:

Oh well, about the restart, is the point of the gameplay actually, the weld is just an excuse to make it like it. About the instructions, you have enough time in that ones to make it anyway, you can restart and play it again :)

Nice you loved the welding concept :)
