Reviews for "Super Morse Code RPG"

Not Bad

I liked it because I felt not only was I playing a game but learning something at the same time great job. The only thing was that it was too easy to die and then you have to start the whole thing over again. Maybe add some more pain killers and grenades to the mix so it is fair or have away to get more so that it is possible to finish the game. Also maybe change it up some with what letters and numbers are needed to interact with the game so that I am not just learning a few sets of numbers but needing to expand and learn more. Yet the most original idea I seen here on newgrounds in awhile. Good Job. Also really great music as well.

Grent responds:

While the primary focus of this game was certainly not learning Morse code, I will say that it is a pretty sweet side effect. I know I'll be able to say "AAAAAAAAAA" in Morse if I ever have the need, and that's a really comforting thought. ;)

But seriously, I'm glad you learned something (I know I learned a lot of Morse making this game). Unfortunately, the 72-hour time limit didn't really permit us to add many more letters to your repertoire, though I would have enjoyed doing so. As for the items: yes, it is punishingly difficult as it is. Unfortunately, the game was balanced thinking that the STOR would be fully accessible. I'll be working on that; hopefully I'll have it fixed today.

I can't really take credit for the music, as it was taken from six different artists on the Audio Portal, but I guess I'll take that as a compliment to our tastes.

Good and interesting.

This is a pretty radical game, ive never seen anything like this. I do wish though that you didnt have to "more" the number for the only soldier in the field. Like when you are facing two soldiers and one dies, want to more the remaining one. it just seems obvious.

Grent responds:

The idea behind that was that sometimes you actually want to use an item, but accidentally hold the button down for too long and cue up the attack menu. Making you select the enemy allows you time to back out of the menu.

I love the concept of this

I love the concept of this, it has a lot of potential!

But you should definatly remake this outside of any contests or jams. I think the quality of things from contests and jams is usually pretty low, while the idea can be pretty good, since it's unfinished, rushed, etc.... That's also the case here.

But the idea is superb! What a nice way to learn morse!

Here are some suggestions:

-use letters instead of numbers to select enemies. The numbers are too long to enter.
-make the long tone shorter. In movies, long tones of morse code are shorter than the long tones required in this game. Sometimes I intend a long tone but it interprets it as a short tone.
-as others said, if there's one enemy, don't require selecting it with a number at all.
-have a working store
-allow assigning levels to defense and attack and such yourself
-longer game, more maps, more enemy types, more variation, ...

Grent responds:

Des and I are a bit tired of working on this game (spending 60-something of the past 72 hours will do that to you), so we may or may not do a remake/sequel. As for the tone length, it was a little long as opposed to most actual Morse transmission speeds, but I figured there were enough people who would not be able to use it at the original speeds to justify slowing it down a bit. I will say, I did consider changing the enemy numbers to letters for exactly the reason you mentioned, but when the idea came up, we were too far into the process to change it.

Needs to be fixed

Run doesn't seem to work and stor needs a fix. Otherwise def. a good chance to learn morse the way I've always wanted to.

Grent responds:

Run is just very unlikely to succeed. I'll probably make it a bit easier to run in a future update and make it clear when the run is failing and not that it simply isn't working. Also the STOR is fixed now.

Who would have thought it?

Seriously, what a clever and witty concept to have an RPG based entirely on Morse code let alone sort of teach us about it back the old days hahahahaha.

Though its a bit hard at first if you give it a shot it's a really fun game.

Good job guys!

Grent responds:

I was actually surprised at how well we DID balance the game in the three days we had to do so, but yeah, it was harder than intended. In the sequel, when we (hopefully) have more time to properly balance things, it won't be so punishing.
