Reviews for "Riddles of Renaissance"

Tiny problems.

Getting Master on the first try was easy enough; however, there were a few tiny problems. Clicking on the EXACT pixel on Brugel's Landscape with the Fall of Icarus is annoying as hell. Also, Paolo Veronese was a Mannerist painter directly after the Renaissance. Finally, the two bonus Leonardo drawings were the both the some of the less impressive drawings of his, and the gallery didn't need more Leonardo. Your chronology was also a little fussy, and your exemption of Renaissance sculpture was really disheartening.

However, this was a fun little quiz to refresh me on my (admittedly rusty) knowledge of the mid-to-late Renaissance, and it's nice to see something resembling culture on this site.

mrty responds:

- I'll work on that pixel problem, since you are the second person to complain about it.
- Thanks for the heads-up about Veronese. But I don't think that a few out-of-period paintings should be a problem.
- I agree that the one with the neck is far from interesting, but I thought that the flying machine drawing would be. It was, after all, one of the first attempts at flying.
- I didn't work on any chronological order. The riddles are ordered randomly.
- I did think of sculpture at first, but after browsing through some sculpture examples, I decided that you couldn't really make up any riddles with them. Although, if you have some recommendations, I'd appreciate you sharing them with me.
- And finally, thanks for the review.

nice

entertaining, educating and enjoyable at the same time - well done!
i especially liked the musik.

but it is to repetitive - the same questions/pictures in the same order every time -.-

Cool concept

Reminded me alot of those puzzles in AC2. Thats not a bad thing, I loved those:) Also, great music, it makes it really relaxing to play! You should however add a zoom function, as it could get a bit confusing with so much on screen (I know that's just the way the paintings are, and maybe you didn't add it so it would be harder? What do I know?

Very artsy

Hey mrty,

--Production--
Pretty slick and fast moving. I like how the puzzles aren't overly hard to become boring. The artwork is pretty well selected, with some riddles using actual facts from myths and some using facts gathered just from observing the paintings. That's how it relates to more than just one type of player.

--Experience--
Looking at all the paintings you get an eerie feeling of being in the past. Analyzing these paintings makes you feel like someone important, rather than just some quiz about flash stuff. (Impossible quiz much?)

--Style--
This is a unique and special game that has a certain emotional component to it. I didn't notice any of your grammar or spelling mistakes. You must have proof-read very well. The whole thing is polished very much so into a final game.

--Wow Factor--
The paintings themselves lend to our amazement. I'm not one who regularly looks at Renaissance paintings so the whole thing is new and special. I enjoyed going through finding different stuff about the gods and stuff by answering questions. It lends to the experience when you don't know some stuff at the beginning of the game, and at the end of the game, you've learnt some stuff.

--Personal Tilt--
I was pleased with this game, even though I was playing it at college and there were some naked paintings of girls on there and I felt a bit uneasy so I scrolled down every time somebody walked past and I'm pretty sure some of them thought weird of me. But good game.
