Reviews for "Gotham Heat"

Not bad

The animation was very good, but the voice acting and the design of Bullock and Police Commissioner Gordon need a good amount of work. Otherwise this was pretty impressive work.

dasdad

that detective sounds so stupid

Good short feature!

I remember seeing the trailer for this and given constructive criticism for it, but I would have never imagined the full feature to be this good. Bravo to you!

The writing has its merits - there were some really good lines and the overall plot very solid. Some of the lines were delivered well, such as the Detective's, while some others still need some work. The lack of acting in some of the voices is perhaps one of the very few things that weaken this feature.

The directing is surprisingly well done, having seen the trailer. The cuts are full of energy, making the overall somewhat lack-luster graphic not such a big issue. Even though the pictures are not too well painted, the editing is much better than the average flash movie here and actually pulls me into the story.

Overall, good writing, great directing and editing, voice acting and graphics need work, but overall I appreciate the Dark Knight soundtrack as well. Great atmosphere. This is truly one of the more outstanding flash features to be seen in a while, which is why this lengthy review is written. I hope it has been helpful, and please accept my sincere appraisal and encouragement - you are very talented, and now I definitely want to see your next piece!

great short

Fantastic! Im keen on doing a batman short film too, its always great to see an animated short geared toward the cinematic rather than comedy or parody. il say what i think could be improved for your next film:

- some pieces of dialogue were a bit too geared toward explaining whats happening, and its obvious, they talk about the "tip off" twice, "we just got swarmed with bats!" .. it seems unnatural (voice acting was superb though)

- some sfx was not on par with the soundtracks cinematic feel because theres stock footstep sounds (from cs?) and police sirens, with no post work done on them. If theyre in an empty warehouse, put all the sfx together, then go into an audio editor and add some echo, some stereo effect, some fades/pitch bend..etc, just little tweaks to make it seem real, and not a stock sound.

- your stage size is tiny. adjust your stage size so its as big as newgrounds will allow, and host it fullscreen somewhere!

-stay away from side view (2D) angles, it hinders the illusion of a movie

-look up 1 and 2 point perspective (andew loomis), it wont take long to learn and it will greatly help on all your scenes/building perspectives!

Hope you take this advice with a pinch of salt, as the film was great. Keep up the good work!
