Reviews for "Ghost Guidance"

great

all you need to do is add a quality button the lag can be a bitch at times

Great game but ...

Great game but a bit annoying. It's a really nice , but you could add more vehicle, some special powers ... I don't know, but some things to make the game addictive :)

crazy awesome!

i love the smooth "flowing" control. nice graphics and style!

Below proficient.

Opening statements:

I will say this game was unique and very creative, and that I enjoyed it. However, your game is missing a few crucial elements that would make it a lot better, and is also a bit short.

Gameplay: Excellent, I enjoyed the classic concept and the fact that it was easy to play. Also, I didn't get "sticky keys," but I do use Google chrome so I don't always factor that in reviewing. It was lacking gameplay wise though, I'll explain that in the recommendations section.

Content: You had various ships with unique powers, which were interesting. Your bosses did different things and you even had an interesting plot. The menus were well done and the instructions were easy to follow. But you were still missing a few crucial things content wise too.

Audio: You did something that is rather rare, you managed to not annoy me with the audio. The sound effects were good , and the music was somewhat fitting to your game.

Recommendations:

You are missing:

~A pause button.

~A pause menu.

~A quality select feature.

~A mute button.

You should:

~Make the game longer.

~Add cut scenes.

~Add an extras selection in the menu and showcase what you did to make the game.

~Be proud of yourself for making an awesome game.

Void24 responds:

Wow, that's quite a long review. Although I will not be able to respond to all feedback, I want to say that this kind of in depth critique is very important to a game developer's growth, and very appreciated.

I only just now realize that I do not have a pause or mute function (oops). and an extras section sounds like a great idea to spruce up the otherwise boring "credits" page.

Interesting but sluggish

You say the game "focuses on keeping a sense of speed". However, at least on my computer (a Lenovo T61p) it ran very slowly. It might be either because of visual effects like the clouds or because of the "geometry based collision detection".
In the first case, you could offer (like many games do) an option to reduce the visual effects quality.
In the second case, you could at least offer a fair warning that the game is CPU intensive; pointing out on which systems is it tested would be even better. Incidentally, shmups opt for simple collision detection precisely because it's fast; the extreme being Danmaku games which pitch your tiny hitbox (a square a few pixels wide, much smaller than your ship) against hundreds or thousands of on-screen bullets.

Void24 responds:

The collision detection is quite fast. As in most flash games, if there is slowdown it is probably due to visual effects. I am sorry to hear that the game ran slowly for you. Perhaps I need to test on a wider variety of machines.

Thank you for your input.
