Reviews for "Theia"

Its great but one thing ...

HOW DO YOU FREAKING BEAT LEVEL 7??

Way. way too hard.

I'm too tired and frustrated to write a proper review, but here it is:
Interesting story, and good idea on the level passwords. Because no one is going to bother playing each and every level.
You made it so everything literally has to be perfect. Dodging the bubba things, for example. You have to time everything to the millisecond in order to dodge their attacks. You can't push rocks unless you're perfectly centred in front of it, if you're in the slightest bit to the left of right, he won't push it. And the last level, oh the last level was pathetic. Quicktime events are supposed to be completable on the first try. This one, however, requires you to memorise each and every button for the entire thing since if you press it a fraction of a second too late, you die. I realised you have to have pressed the button before the sound of the bell stops ringing, and that rings for about half a second. Hopefully that puts it into perspective.
And don't even let me get started on the speed of the game. The character actually walks. It makes the longer levels unbearable since you have to start from the beginning if you die...
And one last thing, why allocate a number of lives? Once they're depleted, you can select continue and it gives you three more. A little pointless. If you had checkpoints in each level, however, then it would be a different story.
1 for the story
1 for the art
That's it.
The gameplay of this completely ruins it. I think I can safely say I've never played a game as bad as this.

its like dragon's lair

you know this game, dragon's lair by the animator don bluth? your animations are like dragon's lair. highly detailed animation of walking, drilling. taking lots of time for each sequence to end. probably maybe its your game mechanic to deliberately make the drilling animation to be painfully long.

also in dragon's lair, the game is super strict in its collision detection. same like your game, where you precisely need to be in the center of the boulder to push it and so on.

put all this factors in and boss levels that need super precision timing and pacing makes this game really really frustrating. I stopped playing after winning the second boss cause it just grits my nerve on how precise the timing is needed to escape from the lava.

hit a wall for a second? guess you can kiss your ass goodbye as you have no more time to escape from the lava.

puzzle games with such precision and speed factors just don't make a good game at all.

props for the don bluth animation of your character sprite though. could had use a frame or 2 lesser.

Toonimated responds:

and get to the final boss (with a password in your case) and you'll see something really peculiar!

Great Graphics, Awful Gameplay

The game was beautifully drawn, and very colorful. An absolute pleasure to look at.

If only so much detail had gone into gameplay.

Spotty

Visually bland, the music, annoying at best, reminiscent of old echo the dolphin games, meaning annoying ambient high pitched earsplitting crap.

Collision detection is off even for those of us who grew up on the old Nintendo, it just plane sucks.

Please refine your idea of game, and try again.

it gets a 2, because I liked Echo when I as a kid.
