Reviews for "Theia"

Very nice artwork, very poor gameplay.

I'll say the positives first: this game looks amazing. The animations are really slick, the art direction is fantastic, and the presentation is great.

Now, about the gameplay, which has severe flaws. You seem to have chosen a layering technique which is cool, but very buggy. Since the rocks are flat, knowing when you are in between them is almost impossible since they flatten the view of you. Also, when I was in between two, I had to shuffle for about a minute to actually be able to walk out.

The enemies look cool, but attack way to far. I spent so much trial and error on this game that it wasn't even funny. Another problem is your difficulty curve, which is wack. First level shows you how to move around, 2nd shows you how to dig, and then the third one is extremely difficult for a person who has just learned how to play your game.

Some of the angles you have chosen to display your art at are terrible. The game's dimensions are also pretty big, I had to scroll up and down to see my player, and zooming out with my browser made all text on the page unviewable. The gameplay feels sluggish in movement and a bit wonky.

Sorry.

Ok game but there are some bull crap parts

It is an ok game but what ruined it for me was the first boss who is the spider who killed me 15 times because the hit detection box was so far off and there were so many dead ends you couldn't get out off that I have found this game to look nice but be crap not even fun flamboyant crap

good try i guess

I didn't like the awkward controls, and I wanted to quit, but I figured I should at least get passed the first boss before I make any judgments.

The first time I thought 'ok this is stupid' is during the huge vertical line of red guys on each side (level 9 i think). It's too difficult to see if your character is going to bump into one of the crystals, and if you do, you die. You have to judge the distance walked horizontally away from the object vs. how quick you can then run vertically so you don't get squashed. This is all very complex when you can't run diagonally.

The next level required even faster reflexes. But the character's movement and the speed of the red guys leave a zero error tolerance, so you just have to play it over and over, perfecting each and every red guy.

The puzzles were too easy (you go under everything) and the "reflex" parts were too hard to be reflex, so it was monotonous replaying.

To add insult to injury, the life system counted down, but gave you a continue with no repercussions. There was zero purpose for the life system other than to say "hey you just died 4 times in a row again, now you have to press continue". This was an annoyance, but I felt the need to point it out.

After I was heavily annoyed I finally made it to the boss. I didn't like the gameplay (running down) but to each his own, that's fine, i'll still do it. What I found out was that THE SPIDER GETS CLOSER TO YOU AS YOU MOVE DOWN. I couldn't even see my character at the end because the spider was right on top of me. I just held down and hoped the end was near. Maybe it was near, maybe it wasn't, who knows, THERE WAS A SPIDER BLOCKING MY VIEW. After a few tries, I was on the VERY BOTTOM EDGE of the screen, holding down with all my glory, knowing I had to beat the spider this time, because i'm going as fast as the screen is letting me. But something happened, a wall of rocks maybe? (i was underground) I don't know, I COULDN'T SEE MYSELF. I died. There was no point for me try again, even if I had tried to come above ground, the spider would have gotten me. I'm not saying that it's impossible to complete, i'm merely saying that if the spider was intentionally supposed to block my view, then that's stupid and not worth my time.

Great artwork at the beginning, ok plot, and good music.

I also apologize for writing a review before completing the game, something I usually don't do. But I couldn't take it, and I felt my frustration was important for you to know.

yea right

A mystical earth quake strikes, then some monsters manage to get down in the core easy and in five seconds, dude seriously.
It dosn't have a long story and who heck are you, some random dude that is brave?
One last thing, the enemies kill you in one freakin strike, shouldn't you be like strong or something.

pissed me off

at the spider boss thing you made it to frustrating. just work on some things such as the scroll speed and such but it made me quit early in the game due to some of the animation and the spider creature.
