Reviews for "Tankmen: Incursion"

General consensus is...

that the gameplay is terrible, and its no mystery why people think so.

The camera is garbage. It zooms in and out too much, and doesn't show you what you need to see 95% of the time. Sure it might zoom out when an enemy flies near, but what about the platforms I'm trying to jump to? I jumped off the edge of a level several times because the camera view was not wide enough to let me know where exactly I was headed.

The controls are kind of garbage too. I enjoy a good MetalSlug-esque arcade style shooter just as much as the next guy, but this one does the genre no justice. In Metal Slug you could wave shoot back and forth between up and side and get shots to fire at the inbetween angles to hit enemies. I could not do that in this game, and as a result I would get destroyed by flying enemies which stayed out of my 8 limited lines of fire, and also by the wall mounted guns which were at an angle I could not shoot to.

And speaking of enemies, most of the enemies were very poorly designed. Doubled with the fact that you can only fire in the 8 set directions, the fact that they could freely pass through walls was ridiculously overpowering. While neither the enemies nor the player could shoot through the walls, when the enemies passed through the walls and fired off some quick shots at an angle I couldn't counter-fire at, I lost a considerable amount of health with no chance of defense at all. I'll also mention again that the wall mounted turrets were incredibly broken; they did an overwhelming amount of damage and most sat at angles where I could not shoot them without taking several shots first.

As far as graphics go, they were pretty phenomenal, despite watching them zoom in and out like mad. This game is a lot like Counter-Strike:Source in a way, being that it made great strides in graphics but generally just released a lousy game.

I would suggest taking some time to play some Metal Slug and really study what makes it's gameplay as good as it is (or even Alien Hominid here on Newgrounds, which is the epitome of flash game success off of NG). It's a balanced game, free from distractions like crazy camera controls or leaves blowing around everywhere. I'm sure if you take in what makes those games as good as they are, you can incorporate some of those points into this game here, and really make it something worth playing.

Underated.

The camera didn't get to annoying for me but I can see where people would bitch about something like that. Really though this game was good. A little difficult with those flying enemies, on top of that the gun had ugly aim. The jumps felt funny until I stopped shooting while jumping. Overall I don't think it was that bad but if you can patch up that zoom to be more slower and have the mouse aim with right trigger shot and left trigger/shift to jump it would ease the frustrations people are having with your game. It's a good game just a bit painful to play.

BTW fan of your MK vs SF flashes. Great job on those.

A nice concept that needs -calibration-

The dynamic camera is a good idea BUT it ill implemented. Too fast, too jolty, too spastic. Try to keep the action focused some other way, perhaps lower the speed of the movement or be sure that it is at least roughly centered on your character. I think the problem is that the enemies move around too quickly and since they can fly can move almost EVERYWHERE so the camara tries to focus on all of this it gets this result.

The enemies, also come out as soon as you spawn. NOT happy at all. Get a wall on the back of the starting point so at least if you gonna get drilled you don't just die falling the split second you start the game. there's a reason why games have tutorials or begginings with little to no harms at all so the player gets used to the controls first.

I didn't quite feel the urge to keep playing after loosing lifes so easily and having the camera jumping around so much. I aint complaining that the game is hard. It's just that if it were more inviting to keep trying then it would justify it's difficulty.

Needless to say that the graphics were excellent.

haha

SUPER SMASH BROS.....
lol whatever this game is....special?
well ...each time a thing go under i see almost my guy...

Great graphics, not so great gameplay.

I will admit it, this game is delivered with a beautiful presentation. Good music, sound effects, art, animation, etc. But sometimes looks aren't everything.

Gameplay is ruined by two things:
1. Super Sensitive Camera
2. Hard to adapt to controls.

Often times the camera will be zooming in and out twenty times to prevent you from knowing what the the hell is going on.

The controls aren't the best either. Using the S key to jump made playing the game much harder than it should be.

Enemies are impossible to hit because of the certain angles you are limited to. This is made even more frustrating with the sensitive camera and awful control.

Overall I think this game deserves credit for taking a pretty big leap for graphics on flash, but gameplay was... bad.

My advice: Spend as much time on gameplay as much as you do with graphics.
