Reviews for "The Rise of a Knight"

awesome!

only has just a little to much gore and blood!

SeethingSwarm responds:

Haha! I think the blood and gore makes the game just that much more fun, but I guess we all have our preferences. Glad you liked the game! :)

great game but

It's a great game, except the title needs work, knights were men of their word, if they said "I will not kill you" they wouldn't... granted they didn't say bobby the squire wouldn't kill you, but they themselves would not kill you, the story doesn't strike me so much as a night

SeethingSwarm responds:

The main character is NOT a knight. He is a humble loyal guard throughout the whole game up untill the end... He is also human which means he has flaws. I wanted to let him have some realistic qualities. I understand that it might piss you off, but the one and only time the guard lied in this game was when he was under a lot of stress, right after a whole horde of goblins tried to kill him!
I hope that cleared it up a bit.

Thanks for the review and Im glad you liked the game :)

NOT ENOUGH FORCLOSURE!!!

you're leaving it TOO wide open for a sequel. WAAAAAAAAAY TO WIDE OPEN!!! LIKE ARG!!!

If you do make a sequel, it'd be cool to pick and choose weapons, upgrade armor, ETC.

But at the game at hand, it was very good. The side scrolling was quite good, and it catered to my preferences. my only peeve is the attacking while crouched. could it be something along the lines of stabbing, and it being a rather weak attack. or at least be able to move while you're shielding yourself. something along those lines

other than that, kudos.

SeethingSwarm responds:

Glad you liked it. Initially I made it possible to attack while shielding, but I took it out because the game just became way too easy. Im busy with a sequel at the moment and I've made it possible so that you can stab while shielding, just like you said, :)

I dont know how it will play out yet, let's see...

didnt u beta test this game?

ok, where to begin.

first off, ur cut scenes need improving. i mean visually they're fine, its just that i ended up skipping a few without realisng. (it takes forever to to go to the next bit of text so i thought it was already finished) might i suggest a "next" button in the bottom right corner so the player can go to the next screen of the cut scene whenever he wants? that way fast readers dont have to wait for the game to 'catch up' and proceed to the next screen of the cut scene.

secondly, there are some bugs. like when the dagger traps or acid traps fall down, sometimes hit my player when im not actually next to them.

also, u realise u can just run and hold the A button for pretty much all enemies except for the spider and some of the goblins with range attacks right? i dunno if u intended that, maybe u did. but i like it anyway lol. also for the ogre boss u can just hold the jump button and A and beat him easily that way.

also, might i suggest having the [Space Bar] to also act as the 'jump' function?

and that spider queen boss was fucking annoying, the random spiders + acid made it frustrating. and why does the game end after the ogre? also i gotta say that i skipped the initial cut scene after a while, i got board. lol.

so basically here's the things needed for the sequel.

slight tweaks in the battle system
no cheap bosses with cheap minions and environmental aid ( cheap =/= difficult ;) )
cutscenes need a "next" button which highlights to signal to the player that he/she can skip to the next frame in order to speed up the process. this way i dont need to skip the intro anymore =)
maybe some customised material? (ability to purchase new armor + weapons, yes i know this isnt an RPG)

now for the good stuff
nice visuals
music suits the game and theme
i like the enemies, and i know the sequel will continue the story (am i right?) so new levels + enemies will inevitably follow.

hmm, that's all for now me thinks

SeethingSwarm responds:

Thanks for the great review!
Glad you liked the game even though there's a lot to improve upon. I am well aware of the bugs you have mentioned because of many angry and irritated players before you :) I have learned a lot from this game and I am pretty confident that those bugs will not appear in the sequel. I'll do my best just like I did with this one. The reason why Im not gonna fix them in this game is because I'll basically have to rewrite most of the code, and that will take ages...I'll rather take what I have learned and move forward with my next game.

Your suggestions for things in the sequel are all really good and I'll keep them in mind... Thanks again!

It was ok

I liked it but it seem a bit to slow paced for me and when a bunch of enemies are on me it's a bit hard to counter them besides just putting up you shield till you're full health but even then the rangers and ones with longer ranged weapon are hard to hit. I couldn't really get far with this however the looks were nice and the death scenes were very good and enjoyable to see. And as a first game I have to say great job.

SeethingSwarm responds:

Thanks. I am still pretty new with flash games, but this was not my first game. I submitted The Rise of a Knight under my new username SeethingSwarm, but there are 2 other games and a few movies of mine submitted under my old username SecretSecretary. Check them out if you get the chance :)

I agree this game does get a bit slow-paced at times, but I guess its just a matter of opinion if you like it or not. I think it added to the atmosphere and immersiveness. Thanks for the review!
