Reviews for "The Rise of a Knight"

Great game, only minor nitpicks

I loved the art and the story, and I loved the little artistic touches like the sun rising and setting and owls turning their heads at the sound of your approach.

I have to admit though, I was one of those deplorable players who discovered that holding down the quick slash button would speed you to an easy victory. But I only committed this crime so I could see each chapter of the story quickly. I enjoyed seeing the guard/knight interact with the other characters.

I hope there is a TRoaK2 because you have so much room to expand. You could introduce shops, upgradable items, additional bars for special abilities, shifting between foreground and background, and more.

I wholeheartedly recommend that you hand over all of the story script over to a proofreader or two before releasing a game on Newgrounds though. The story really could've benefitted from corrected spelling errors, proper sentence structure, and a few writer's touches. Heck, I'd be delighted if I could help with that sorta thing.

Good job, well done.

SeethingSwarm responds:

Yeah my writing skills are not that good. I did let a few people proofread the narration, but I guess they werent that good either. Im live in Finland and many people here do not use english very often. There will be a sequel but it wont be called The Rise of a Knight 2, seeing as the guard rose to become a knight at the end of this game, he wont be able to rise to knighthood again...

I take all the reviews in consideration and will try my best to improve on the writing as well. I dont know if I feel comfortable giving away my script for narration to a stranger to proofread. Sorry, no offense intended.

Awesome but not.

Great graphics.
The gameplay was simple but fun.
I didn't like how it was the same thing over and over again. And there was no pause button, need one of those next time. Also you should have some special move when you jump and attack. And when you jump you should be able to dodge attacks. I tried jumping over arrows and attacking goblins and got hit and was immediately teleported onto the ground.

SeethingSwarm responds:

Yeah, true, the jumping is a bit flawed and needs work. I think I have improved enough while making this game to prevent silly thing like that in the sequel. Im glad you liked the graphics. It was hard work. Thanks for the review!

Pure awe!

This game was awesome tho it could use a bit more when it comes to the sound tracks and it coulod use more of a varieity of weapons and such.. It still rocks 9 stars!

SeethingSwarm responds:

Thanks a lot!
The reason why the music does not vary that much is because music is the one thing that makes the filesize HUGE! And that means the loading time would become unbearably long, and besides, this game have almost reached the max size limit for uploads here on Newgrounds. Glad you liked the game, and wait for the sequel, there will be lots of...

omg

it was good but im stuck lol still love it

SeethingSwarm responds:

Thanks!

Awsome

Just a little bit off of legendary, here are some tips, hope they help:

1, Make in air combos if the game is gonna be fully 2D, it adds a lot of depth.
2. Add an armor and weapon system that can affect speed, stamin etc.
3. You can make it seem like there are more enemy types by just palette swapping them and giving them small differences in attributes

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!

SeethingSwarm responds:

Yeah the air-combo idea is great!
Thanks!
