What i did was cut part of a neon gradient then blured the top,
WOW you guys are really good.You guys should make lightsaber sprites!
I like doing all the glowing effects and stuff by hand. Gives it a "clone wars" feel.

actually i saw really good pics with gimp but you really have to know how to use (wich i dont) but photoshop and occasionally flash are superior in my opinion
