I've seen stuff like sprite-using, keyframing, 3D, KB games, even 6MB games, sims, awesome tweening, complex games, strategy games, fighting games and some pointless games getting awards. So I can't make any assumptions as of what type of style of flash movies/games users would think would be great. So I'd like to make a survey.
In your opinion, what would you suppose to see, in a flash game or movie, that would make you say "WHOA AWESOME! I WILL VOTE 5" and actually vote 5?

For me it would be a sprite movie with a totally origional and grerat story. Of course it would have to be well animated and everything, but seeing something with a real great story would be like woah.
For me, artwork and sound should be high quality, and if it's a game... it should be involving or, if it's a puzzle game, addictive as hell.

if i like something i vote 5, if i dont, i vote 0, there is no middle ground with me, i either like it, or i dont.
But what i like most is great artwork and an involving storyline. If not that, then it has to be very very funny.

It has too have great graphics (+everything must look good together, so no sprites combined with real drawn characters), sounds and music (most important parts). It may not be too short or too long and it has to have an interesting story.

If it has everything I mentioned above, yes I would vote 5. Not if it only has a lot of porn, blood etc.

As long as it's not boring after 1 minute. Has good graphics, sounds etc. and the controls aren't too hard, then I think I would vote 5. It also have to be original.
Well this is all a bit easily said, it could depent a whole lot of things.
a badly tweened stick flash thats 10 seconds long yet 5 megs in size because its full of shitty music that rapes the ears.

For me to vote 5 on something it absolutly needs good animation but ill admit im a sucker for super nintendo game parodies so i really take it easy on those but for example if anyone here remebers autumn tree ( its on front page now ) i gave that a 5 mainly because of its outstanding animation.
this movie is a fraud and doesn't deserve to be ranked #1003 for score.
really good artwork/animation and quality voice acting (sometimes they can just have text and i'll still love it, though) great humor and/or action helps, too. a good plot is also sometimes important(if it's not a comedy) unless the action is really good and distracts me from the story. for games, it's the same except for the voice acting and story. i don't care about voice acting and plot when i'm playing a flash game. i'm just thinking about gameplay. it is completely different for console games, though. story and acting are usually important to me (not as important as gameplay) when i play console games.

The flash has to be pretty damn impressive for me to vote 5.
I have only voted 5 on a few submissions that were under judgment. For me, a 5 comes from good artwork, style, story, humor, etc. For instance, FFA+, Valhalla Knights, and Bitey all received 5's from me when I saw them under judgment. Most really good flashes get a 4, however, and the majority of my votes are 3's (for those I think are worthy of passing). A few are 2's that I think look okay, but didn't really move me in any way.

Oh ya... Some of you guys mentioned humor and parodies that are well done will make you vote 5. I was wondering if you guys would also vote for stuff with a particular theme... like Samurai, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, ninjas, guns & bullets, space shooters, pretty anime girls, sports... Or do you not care about that, just needs to be nice in graphics?
And does any other factors influence your voting, like filesize, preloaders(not finished loading the movie), number of authors...

For me I like games with substance, it doesn't have to look amazing, but it does need to look like you put some effort into it. As for movies, storyline is of great importance, with appearance always going second.
