** UPDATE OCT 13, 2026 **
I pruned out all the users who got approved then completely ignored the project, so there are a few houses available now!
Also with how smooth everything has been going, I don't think I need 4 full days to organize the submissions, so I have extended the art submission deadline to SATURDAY OCT 17TH!
You can apply at the main collab page and keep checking that to see if you are approved.
---
Spooky Month is nearly upon us, and I decided to employ my game development skills to throw together a cool little community game to celebrate the season.
Tank-or-Treat will largely play like a Stardew Valley town. Players pick an avatar, go from house to house and knock on doors hoping for a tasty treat.
"BUT PSYCHOGOLDFISH, THAT SOUNDS LIKE A GAME, NOT AN ART COLLAB! GET THE HELL OFF OUR ART FORUMS!!!"
- Some Angry Forum User Probably
Woah buddy, hold on, I'm getting to that part!
IT'S ALSO AN ART COLLAB!
Didn't see that coming, did you Mr Fake internet Troll.
You see, when a player knocks on a door, they will be treated to a fun 2-frame image sequence of YOUR ORIGINAL CHARACTERS answering the door in their Halloween costumes!
Frame 1 is a neutral image, and the frame 2 is your OC either giving out a fun treat, or doing something spooky/silly as a trick.
Here's a rough example:

Each house will also unlock an NG medal! So you'll also need to make a small 100x100 icon representing the treat or trick. This icon should have a transparent background so it looks nice when viewed from the in-game candy bag.
And that's just the MAIN assignment. This collab even has SIDE QUESTS!!!!!!!
The game itself will take place in a large suburban neighborhood. I'm going to be generating 100 houses for the neighborhood and putting them online so you can claim one for your own... and DECORATE IT!
When people knock on your door, the reveal animation will also start with a close up of your door opening. YOU CAN DECORATE THE DOOR TOO!!!
Decorating is totally optional, and I plan on adding 48 apartments for people who just want to do the simple 2-frame part without having to worry about what the HOA has to say about their design choices.
Players can look at their candy bag at any time to see your art, and zoom in to all the fine details too!
Sound like fun?
Well, there are a few rules and disclaimers.
There are 100 houses, plus a batch of 48 simple apartment doors. That means there are limited slots, and we can only accept so many people. If you don't make the cut, it's nothing personal.
You MUST be scouted in the art portal!
NO FUCKING AI ART. PERIOD!!!
This is going to be an E/T rated game, so the characters involved need to fit into that suitability range. If you wanna dress them up a little risque, that's fine, just keep it tasteful. If I feel like it crosses a line, I'll reach out, but I'm not gonna play around with people who want to push boundaries (I'll just straight up kick you out if you don't have enough sense to know what the line is).
You need to have an OC that isn't just a fan character. It has to be YOUR OC, and you need to have a good submission repping them on the Art Portal. If you apply using someone else's character, or something super derivative, I'm just gonna reject you, no questions asked.
The costumes you give your characters CAN be based on popular characters. Just don't blatantly violate any copyright laws and we'll be good.
You'll be drawing 2 character images at a 1:2 ratio, with a minimum size of 512 x 1024 px. Players will be able to revisit your art in a proper art viewer with full pan/zoom functionality so feel free to go bigger if you want to show more details, as long as it's always twice as tall as it is wide. Excessively large images may need to be shrunk to avoid causing load errors.
You'll also be drawing a 100x100 icon for the medal unlock and candy bag.
I'll keep posting any updates in this thread, so make sure you click the heart icon at the top of this pod, or give me a follow, to see when new information rolls out in Your Feed.
!!!!!! THIS IS WHERE ALL THE COMMUNICATION HAPPENS, SO DO NOT IGNORE THIS THREAD !!!!!!!
All submissions should be in by end of day (NG time) on Oct 17th. I’d like to launch the game on the 19th, so having those few extra days will help a lot. Your profile pages have a counter that'll let you know EXACTLY how much time you have left.
=== FAQ ===
How do I know if I'm approved?
Go to the application page, and you'll see either a Sign In or View Profile button in the upper right. Click that, and the profile page will tell you the current status of your application.

Can I do (weird/creative thing) with my image?
I've had a few people ask about things like bleeding out of the frame, or using animations. The short answer is, you can do whatever, as long as it looks right on the final in-game reveal sequence. I added a little tool on the profile pages where you can test it out and make whatever adjustments you need ahead of time. How it looks there is how it will look in the real game. If your idea doesn't work, I'm not making any changes to accomodate you.
-------------
Can I include more than one character in my images?
You sure can! Just make sure they all adhere to the rules.
-------------
Do I need to do a background?
Nope. Because of the way the images will cross-fade, I would recommend adding a fill color though. When the submission tools are available, any transparent space will get filled in with black.
-------------
Can I use an animated gif?
Absolutely! But keep it very short and simple. We don't allow MASSIVE file sizes, and the reveal sequence is only a few seconds long
-------------
How do i submit my character art?
Currently, the submission tools are still being worked on. When the time comes, there will be a button to submit on your profile page.
-------------
How do I get a house to decorate?
Much like the submission system, the house selection system is also still under construction. This will also show up on your profile page when it's ready.
-------------
Are you really as handsome as your profile pic OC?
No... not even close....
