Late 1980's early 90's, Ma tried using her credit card somewhere... the vendor said it was cancelled. She hadn't used it in a while, so she called and found out it was cancelled due to 1 year and a month's inactivity. Think it was the Discover card, like the 3rd or 4th biggest at the time. They wanted her back, but that was the last CC my folks carried - they kept traveler's checks in reserve instead, no ATM or bank card either.

While that must've been rather inconvenient, I suppose it was in everybody's best interest if it was one of those cards that carries a maintenance charge or a minimum usage requirement.
