In Canada, there isn't a death penalty, so the worst you ever get is life in prison. You don't pay a cent - the tax money literally comes to you. Prisoners in high-security prison have all the cable packages, satellite TV, automatic flush toilets... really does piss the taxpayers off.

Watch the movie Shawshank Redemption. They explain how prisoners have way too much time on their hands, and how they are limited by the rules of the prison. They HAVE to keep busy, otherwise a lot of them would go mad. Not to mention that you do not always get peaceful time.

Well... not so much. But in another way... prison plays two roles. One is to punish, of course... but the other one is to keep the dangerous individuals outside of society for the time needed to rehabilitate them (if possible). In this sense, making the prison one of the worst horrors possible, wouldn't help achieve such a goal. You don't want prisoners becoming worst threats to society by inflicting bad things to them and making them live in an hostile territory. It wouldn't achieve much good for neither them or the society they live in.
You did not take into account that a majority of Newgrounds users live in the US.

I'd be interested to learn about actual prison life for more inmates.
I've only seen a few blurbs about prisons, mostly portraying them extremely negatively but that's often because they filmed the worst parts of the worst prisons on purpose.
In the news you often hear the reverse; about how prisoners are treated pretty damn well and basically the only downside of prison is that you've with other dumbass violent prisoners.

Among other things : Solitude/loneliness/lack of interaction with people that makes you go crazy, horrible food, constant supervision of guards which makes you paranoid, etc. Honestly, it's literally the worst place in the world the way I see it (in the US at least).
