Hey, you said the K word. I think a ban is in order. J/K, yes that is a great idea, but the gaming industry should do the same thing. $50 for a dvd?? thats crap. =(

Hmm... I doubt that It´ll work so good coz most of the people... like me... come here just to do "NG stuff". But when you put these kind of topics rarelly it haves most of our attention coz it isn´t usual. For excample the voting thing that Tom said if we could help the guy.

If here is going to be everyday like 5 new artists to check out I know I wouldn´t go watch em until I have nothing else to do.

The music sounds good but I try to avoid buying CDs. Hey, what can I say?

Response to Check out my friend's CDs May 25, 2004

if you do start sponsering local bands, make sure there actually local bands, not super rich, professional studios recorded produced bands, also instead of making it a main part of newgrounds do it for people who you feel actually need help, just dont let anyone into it,kind of like the flash portal where lots of crappy flashes, make it through the portal all the time

---woah that was horrible grammer "regards" rob

My friend also has a CD for sale. He and his friends have a band in Cali, but he is orginally from my hometown in IL.

Maybe you can help him and pay 12 bucks for his CD.

Here is his site

YES WADE!!! support local/underground bands. check out my band, the hep http://thehep.cjb.net. we play heavy rock/funk, and we're very quirky and origonal. we've also been named "emerging artists" by the California Music Awards (CAMA).

His voice kinda sounds a bit like Riff-Raff from the Rocky Horror Picture show, but the songs are well-written, if I had some spare cash, I'd buy it.

Hey Wade!

I think its a good idea to start a bands portal on newgrounds, since the audio portal doesn't accept files with bigger sizes...

I was already of uploading some of our songs, but the filesize...

Also, if you intend to take further this idea of pormoting local bands, why dontcha also accept not-so-local bands, but every underground/upcoming bands?

I have thought of somethig: When uploading their music, the user gets to choose if newgrounds.com has the right to publish it further, not only on this site.
You could make a newgrounds.com webradio with newgrounds news and the songs featured on newgrounds.com or something, or even better:
You could make sampler cds with the highest rated songs people vote on, if the user has chosen that you may publish it!
That would mean: newgrounds.com fans would have their favourite newgrounds music, maybe even featured in some flashs+newgrounds fans would help keeping the site running, as you would earn some money which could be used for hosting the flashs and audios+the bands would get promoted, if they are good enough to be high rated!

What do you (all) think of it?

. If AOL can give out millions of CD's for free, the music industry should be able to lower their prices.

I totally agree with your post right there. \m/

Is this because CDs are over priced?

Yes, very true, here in the UK albums are around £10 and singles can be as high as £4; for just one fucking song , how shit is that, something should be done about it...

This is cool. You should do this because I'm pretty sure your friend has alot more of a buzz now than he did befor. Any help is better than no help, I know. I've seen great garage bands diminish because they couldn't get enough buzz to help their reputation. I think that it is a good idea to have a section to help promote artists. It would bring more people to Newgrounds
if thats possible

That's a pretty good idea. Your friend's music is pretty good but I don't like his singing. I think you should promote local artists, meanwhile I'll just try my best. www.firetruck.tk

There is no apostrophe in CDs.

Other than that, the website doesn't work for me :/

Response to Check out my friend's CDs May 25, 2004

i have a band, im only 13 though. but once i turn 18 i will try and get recongnized. sites http://www.mohmusic.tk

OOh yea, I forgot to say stuff about the band. I dont really like them that much. I'm more into Grunge, and no it is not dead, it's still alive because people still listen to bands such as Nirvana and Greenday(just naming the well known). But back to the band, I don't really like the guys voice. I think it's alittle...lets just say pretty. It's the kind of guy that girls would scream at when they here his voice.

Some great ideas from lanth there (a little way above my post - read it). Without too much effort, the audio portal really could be more artist/band friendly - maybe the audio portal could be expanded to have a section just for the "real" music, rather than effects, loops, and things made specifically as soundtracks. This could include charts (and an overall one on the front page), featured bands/artists, and maybe streaming songs from the chart, to make it more accessible. This discussion has proved there is good music among the NG community - i think it's time it's as prominent as the flash and other fun that's brought everyone together. You never know, soon you may have A&R people spotting artists on this very site...
