Why do people listen to music loud?

no, this isnt a "turn down your damn music its so loud" complaint topic, im really curious.

Why do people listen to music so loud that people are able to hear it? I only do that when im annoyed or whenever i really fucking like the song.

doesnt it hurt your ears?

because it makes it easier to hear the nuance of the sounds, particularly those mixed low in volume.

Are you on about headphones or speakers?

Its really easy to forget that sound bleeds quite a lot while wearing headphones, and if youre on about speakers its because people who do it are mostly pricks.

People talk loud when they want to act smart, right?
CORRECT!

So if the music is loud, people might think it's good.

I believe I was reading a study somewhere that said that humans associate loudness with quality when it comes to things like music. But don't quote me on that.

Sounds like something that'd be true to me.

I'm almost deaf in one ear...So I have to listen to music a little louder than most people.
Plus, I just like being engulfed in good sounds.

Good question. It depends on teh audio device. If it's those stupid earbuds, then the sound escapes easily and other sounds outside drown it out, so you need to turn it up to "jamming" volume. I do have a limit with volume, though. Not because it's "too loud", but because at some point it starts clipping.

Honestly, to me, it matters what genre and what exactly I'm listening to.

Usually I would blast Jazz, Classical Music, Hard Rock and Certain sub-genres of hip hop (Instrumental, Nu-Jazz, Trip-Hop,etc.) to look for different subtle and most of the time complex, (at normal volume) components that make up different parts of the song.

I never understood why people Blast alot of straight rap-music so long since there is usually not much complexity within the rap music itself. Save the fact of course that you cannot hear the music itself.

Because they obviously enjoy it. And no headphones, earbuds etc aren't built to injure people's ears unless you have sensitive hearing, but then that's just on you for being stupid.

For the immersive feeling.
To feel alone
To feel isolated.
To be able to ear all the specificities and subtilities of the music
And because some musical genres are just made to be listened to loud. Genres like Drone Doom, Death Metal, Grindcore Tech House, Dance, etc. Those are musical genre that focus a lot on the "sound" and are usualy better appreciated with a louder sound.

Music sounds better when it's louder, you can hear every part of the sound.

Music sounds better louder. It doesn't have that much an effect on us if it's not loud.

It may not hurt your ears now, but it's gonna have shitty effects when your older. It's predicted that this generation is gonna have a shitload of people who lose their hearing.

Most music sounds better loud. I also like a few things to be down low sometimes. You want the music to engulf you and recreate the aural experience of live music but better without all the annoying people.
