Gary Speed found hanged

Depression takes one of the UK's greatest sporting legends. From the BBC:

"Prime Minister David Cameron is among those paying tribute to Wales football manager Gary Speed, who has died suddenly at the age of 42.

"Sources said Speed, Wales manager for nearly a year, was found hanged.

"Cheshire Police found him dead at 07:08 GMT at his home in Huntington, Chester. There are no suspicious circumstances.

"Former Wales team mate Ryan Giggs said he was lost for words. David Cameron said he was "saddened", while Labour's Ed Miliband said football was mourning."

He was a footballer and well known in the 90s and probably before that but I had heard of him in the 90s and he also managed the Welsh national team.

It's sad news, as I recall, he was pretty good as a player and a manager, not that I know that much about sport, it's just a guess.

This issue is about more than 'a footballer dying'. Gary Speed was one of the most well-respected and loved professionals in the game because of his humility and passion for the game. He achieved an awful lot as a player and was making great strides as a manager. He had money, a beautiful wife, 2 fantastic sons and still couldn't combat the loneliness of depression. No-one knew how dark his demons were in 42 years, until today when the found him hanged.
