To be fair, I think it's fine to pull ideas off of microscopic organisms, rather than being literally true, since most people won't have a clue what they look like.
... OR if we did our level "text book style" we could have pop-up labels that inform the player what the organisms are meant to represent (just a name), as well as giving them the opportunity of blowing 'em all up and getting a medal for it.
But like I said, it's easier to get ideas off the mechanisms of the cells, rather than a full blown representation.
To Goat-man: I like the stream-lined look of your guy! If it's a tentacle based organism, you could flip it vertically and try attacks that way (effectively two concepts in one), or adding more tentacles so it's more ... creepy.
