Nobody has any love for ska on Newgrounds? I'm not a huge fan of two-tone ska but third wave is my favorite genre of music.

Streetlight Manifesto, Big D & The Kids Table, The Arrogant Sons of Bitches (r.i.p.), The Suicide Machines, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, any other bands like that? I could go on.

NWOBHM (Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Judas Priest), 80's thrash (Metallica & Megadeth), Symphonic Metal (S&M), Death Metal (Dethklok, In Flames).

People need to be more specific. Saying "Electronic" or "Metal" isn't helpful, because there's a lot of sub-genres that can fall under those, and they have their fair share of crap. I think Technical Death Metal is the best genre, because of it's brutality and technicality, many idiots are driven away, usually into that terrible genre known as Deathcore. It also requires insane amounts of skill to play any instrument in this genre. As well as all that, you get the best pits at TDM shows. Another great genre is Shoegaze, and is usually what I listen when I want to listen to something mellow.

Seriously am I the only person in this thread who said Progressive Metal?

You Prog Rock people are awesome and I love the genre, but sometimes you just need to take it a step further to epicness.

Personally, I'm partial to thrash metal (OLD Metallica, Megadeth etc), good old British Heavy Metal (Iron Maiden, Judas Priest etc), and even some Progressive Metal (Tool, Dream Theater).

But I would agree in saying prog rock, because there are more talented prog rock bands, but prog metal's a close second.

So yeah, Thrash Metal, Black Metal, and Death Metal.

A better question is "favorite" not "best". If you want techniquality I would say almost any form of metal that isn't old-school/nu/core/black is usually very skilled in that respect and I would believe classical music.

Favorites:
Saying just "metal" would be very ignorant so doom, black, thrash, prog metal are generally my favorites by far. Also I would say most video game music from 90-96 generally JRPGs. Shin Megami Tensei's music is my favorite in video games period.
