I've been thinking about getting the top 500 list done a bit sooner than I expected to do it (which was around labor day) as a couple of my parents' old old friends are coming into the area from Switzerland, and we see them very rarely, and will probably be spending some time with them in either Austin or Houston around labor day...

short story short, it might be best to get the top 500 done a bit before September comes just so nothing gets put off more than I'd like it to, so I might be doing the top 500 this coming weekend. Could be even on the 28th, in time for whoever it is who mentioned 8/29... we'll see.

Er... well, you're going to be on today's list, silly. And where'd you get the 9.00+? I mentioned 8.00+/8.50+/9.00+ or top 200 or 250 being options for the miniupdates instead of 7.50+... but I didn't say it HAD to be 9.00+. That was clearly the most extreme option.

Well, the most revolutionary thing possible has happened. No, I'm not referring to the change from 6.00+ to top 500 for this full update... I'm referring to the end of the miniupdate/full list dichotomy. Due to the programming efforts of ShittyKitty, pulling around 850 profiles now takes 4 minutes instead of several hours. As a result, there's no real reason to worry about shortening the 7.50+ miniupdates to top 200 or 8.00+ or whatever. Instead, EVERY SINGLE UPDATE will be top 500. I hope you're all as excited about this standardised format as I am!

Currently, the top 500 extends a bit into the 6.90 range (in fact, #500 has 6.92, and #501 has 6.91, so I didn't even have to worry about tie-breakers), but by next update or so, the top 500 will be more exclusive than 7.00+ would be. That said, and even with the boundary rising, I don't think ANYONE should have any worries about getting onto this list. If you are between 6.00 and the top 500, I will still welcome you to my spreadsheet as I have in the past... ask to be on it, and you shall be. Then it's up to you to make the top 500 itself.

This news also means that the top 500 will probably be a weekly occurance. Perhaps every weekend, starting with a week from this one. I will also consider starting to use sign-up date or exp as a tiebreaker, as ShittyKitty's program can of course pull those stats as well (or should be able to soon). Um... also, I may end up using the name-puller to make everyone's name current on each update, but for now, I'm leaving all names as they were last time.

There were 25 members of the top 100 who ranked up since my birthday edition of the 6.00+ list on June 30th, including several massively impressive ones (great job, leeboy, signin, Dogma, Artificial!). Keep in mind that ALL changes in rank and changes in VP are calculated since that date as well. And now for some "full update info." Well, the most revolutionary thing possible has happened. No, I'm not referring to the change from 6.00+ to top 500 for this full update... I'm referring to the end of the miniupdate/full list dichotomy. Due to the programming efforts of ShittyKitty, pulling around 850 profiles now takes 4 minutes instead of several hours.

All hail teh ShittyKitty ^^

This news also means that the top 500 will probably be a weekly occurance. Perhaps every weekend, starting with a week from this one. I will also consider starting to use sign-up date or exp as a tiebreaker, as ShittyKitty's program can of course pull those stats as well (or should be able to soon).

See thread for details. There's a problem in 1.2. The interim workaround I've been using is to change the PID on the input file to 999999 for the glitched folks, so it returns a response of FIX ME. I manually pull those 3. Beyond that, everything works fine.

I haven't even tried any other pulls beyond the VP pull yet, though I may, this weekend or next week, do the next pentalist with the aid of the program. Unfortunately, the way I have things now... I'm not really equipped to do it as easily as I can do the VP list, even if you disregard the 5 stat versus 1 stat thing... it's more about how many people I have in the pentalist beyond the people ON the list (i.e. not many... about 15 people near 10k exp, 20 people near 10k blams, and 2 people near 10k posts).

So I'm gonna have to think about how to deal with that. Plus, if I DID just expand the tracking area of my penta .xls, I'd still have to deal with the fact that pasting in 5 columns of raw stat data and then sorting by total is NOT going to work, as some people are going to be sorted up into the list when they don't have a stat over 10k yet (like joobie, for instance).

Soooo... I'll have a mix of manual labour and NGlister fun to work out, but it should still be a time saver. Just gonna have to waste some time I normally would use to eye-check some people from ramagi's list and your list... to actually ADD a ton more to the .xls itself. Or I could just paste over everyone from the VP list (which is how I started the current formatted .xls file), but... that would make the file way bigger than it needs to be right now. We'll see.

Errrr... keep in mind that even if all 500 of the top 500 VP users had the max-max VP of 16.00 VP, our combined VP would "only" be 8000.

And maybe this is what you were getting at, but... 16 * 100 = 1600, which is the max for the top 100. We can't even DREAM of hitting 2k unless the VP max on base and/or bonus is boosted. Anyway, even if you WERE just joking with me right there, I'm sure some people would be like "OOOOOooo, yeah, when's 2000 gonna happen, gfox?" so I may as well nip that in the bud right now. #;-}>

As for a.. POSSIBLE #;-}>... mark, like say 1200 VP... if the top 100's VP increases at the same rate as between this update and the June 30th update, it would be sometime near the end of 2006 that we hit 1200 VP... but alas, VP increases due to exp decrease and decrease as each of us nears HT in % exp... and VP increases due to b/p are dropping off as each person nears and gets to EGSC, so... it might be more like 2010. O_O

Check out the timestamps of all 6 posts in the update to see what I mean if you want.

More than 3 are in bold. The convention has been that it's only the people who ranked up in the top 100 who get bolded.

When I was scanning the last 5 numbers for anyone who had a big jump (0.20+ for most people, 0.15+ for high exp people), I noticed your 11.61 to 11.79 jump. Which was from a rankup.

You have to remember that from February until August, up to this very update, I was doing a pattern of 1 big update, 4 little updates, 1 big update, 4 little updates, etc. etc. the little updates all are based on the previous update, whether big OR little, and the changes are from that.

The BIG updates include people who are not IN the little updates, and thus there's no way to show change in VP or rank since the last LITTLE update, do you understand? Many people weren't UPDATED during the little updates (anyone between 6.00 and 7.50 VP, specifically). So I had to base all VP and rank changes on the time since the last BIG update, typically 2 or 2.5 months ago.

And thus, yes, you have ranked up since June 30th, 2004, which was the date of the last 6.00+ update.

Here are the updates I've done, BTW:
