EDIT 23.09.2019: Now with its own music video!

Hey everyone. Time for some context.

In the third quarter of 2015 I was drawn into the story of a game currently in development hell, called Song of the Firefly, conceived by Hoeloe. So taken in was I by the story and the love poured into that game, that I came up with an 8-bar fragment of At the Ends of the Earth (yes, the one on the left sidebar) with what I had at the time -- my voice, a Celtic harp and poor mixing skills. Hoeloe and her team listened to the fragment, enjoyed it, and appointed me as one of their two soundtrack writers; I have only written a couple of instrumental pieces for that game. Most of my contributions to it have been lyrical songs.

I don't know if my mixing has changed, but here it is in full. I finally sat down to finishing the song in late February 2019, after ShockblastDeluxe suggested, on a Discord server, in response to my inability to conceive new songs, that we do a "four producers, one sample" challenge, much like the ones held by YT user Andrew Huang. I looked for a fragment among my submissions whose chords and melody could be ubiquitously used, and I found At the Ends of the Earth.

Now, there is one user still whom I need to talk about. Seán, a.k.a. IrishChieftain, my fiancé. He figures in my list of inspirations because I wrote the lyrics with his relentless love in mind. A part of me can hear him singing this, if his voice were to match mine. Many times has he chased after me, pulling me from the proverbial pit. I find that night-time is one of the easiest subjects for writing lyrics, but I find it especially useful here because it can be taken as metaphor for personal darkness, hard times, despair, silence.

I'd like this to be memorable, heart-wrenching and mesmerising all at once. It is my hope that this song achieves its purpose.

CREDITS:
Troisnyx: Comp, lyrics, vox, Celtic harp, cover art
Jessie Yun: Providing a better piano sound than the Steinway SF2 I have tended to use, for the loopable version. Much thanks to you~
siteml: Finishing the work that Jessie started, for the non-loopable version, which is the one that's going on NG. Jessie was unable to complete this on time after her grandfather died and she needed to take time off to mourn.
etherealwinds: Mastering this, and introducing me to mastering and how it works.

LYRICS

Darkness crowds around me,
to enshroud me
in its noise.
Stars fade right above me,
dying slowly,
one by one.

Shadows swarm around you,
to destroy you
while they can.
Moonlight won't protect you
when your light is
fading fast.

REFRAIN
Can you hear me screaming,
still believing,
that you'll find me?
In the long night unending,
I'll be waiting
for you
through day
and night
and day
and night
and day.

Darkness looms around me,
to entwine me
and to choke me.
Clouds enshroud the moonlight,
taking with it
all my hope.

No more will rain fall softly
upon the fields where
we used to play.
No more will we awaken
to the warm light
of the sun.
(to REFRAIN)

[No more will rain
fall softly on the fields,
and no more will we wake
to the warm light of the sun, and]

That was beautiful. It made me feel the weight of the sorrow this song has produced.

Epic, I felt that.
